jtracks wrote:I have another question about the tanks pertaining to the air soft or IR versions. I will assume that some of you compete in tank battles, when it comes to scoring hits with the air soft tanks how do you do it. You really don't fire the bb's at one another do you, don't they damage the tanks. Sorry for the newb questions, just trying to learn before I make my first purchase.

Thanks, Joe
Most if not all is IR. You don't really shoot at each other with BBs......

Actually, organised Tank warfare is a properly regulated sport with some rules. BB tanks are not used in warfare, only TAMIYA compatible infra red tanks are allowed to fight, Hopefully someone more au-fait with 1/16 tank warfare rules will step up to the plate, of course there is absolutely nothing to stop you fighting with BB tanks amongst your friends or indeed using HENG LONG or TORRO/TAIGEN tanks equipped with their non TAMIYA I/R, it' just means it will not be formally recognised as a BATTLE. shaun
I think I am about to upset someone :haha:

So after reading both of your posts, it seems I should buy IR equipped tanks if I want to purchase more than one and do battle with family and friends. Also sounds as if Tamiya, Heng Long, and Taigen IR units are not compatible. Thanks for the replies.

To much temptation to shoot the controller of the tank than the tank itself :haha: :haha: :haha: Best way to put a BB version out of commission :D

Not really Tracks....if it's a friendly game with buddies and not an organized event...you can do multiple scenarios using the BB tanks.... you can set up drop down targets...and use a capture the flag kind of game...having each team hit so many targets before going to take the flag ;)

IR tanks are cool because most of them have recoil...so visually a little more realistic :D

Thanks ALPHA, it seems to me, that most of the videos I see on you tube are of the air soft tanks, are they more popular?

In the US they are just more available ...and a little cheaper too...it really depends on the manufacturer.... some make both IR and BB for their models... Heng Long being more selective... as only certain models have the IR feature.... Taigen usually does both ....not sure about their new releases though...Tamiya is usually IR only...
But I would say just play it by ear....purchase what tank appeals to you and your friends.... Here in Hawaii... there aren't many organized events like in the UK and Canada.... to play is usually with friends...some who borrow my or someone elses tank...so it doesn't really matter ...no one likes to play BB battles with me after awhile... because I shoot them instead of the tanks :haha: two really good reasons for that...they know they got hit.... and if they borrowed my tank...no damage :D

Anyway.. with Heng Long ...the IR tanks run about 60 dollars more.... Taigen is relative ...Mattoro is the same ;)

Good Luck...have fun shopping around...there are a lot of really good RTRs out there...and if you are really adventurous the Tamiyas..which are all kits

I'm going to do some serious shopping next week, I should be feeling better from the shoulder surgery by then. Thanks again for your help. I'm finding this to be a friendly, helpful place.

Good Luck Joe... take Tigers suggestion to check the recommended vendors before you make your purchase ...believe me it does help knowing a vendor is on the ball or off ;)
