SASSGRUNT'S T29 SUPERTANK SPROCKET SOLUTION:



this is the completed assembly and an exploded assembly (taken apart)
the parts consist of two "IMPACT" M41 Sprocket sets....the brass piece is from some inexpensive Tamiya science "project" gearboxes... an extra long allen bolt... some JB weld and a slightly modified sliding door roller


the has a bearing in it..and would be secured to the outer skirt...then it would just ride on the inside of the Sprocket

the brass axle...is drilled (bored) out so the long bolt can be run through it...then JB welded into the first drive Sprocket
once the whole thing is reassembled ...the extended bolt would screw into the gearbox

That's what I know...as that is what I was told...if you have questions ...ask away.... I'm going to let Sassgrunt know I posted his parts...and he should be able to explain it a little better than I can... also...he is using some High end parts... basing his build on Tamiya components... so you might want to keep in mind there might be some adapting of Heng Long Parts... especially the brass Tamiya axles... also the Sprockets...as the Sprockets are "keyed" for Tamiya... you could easily improvise by using plastic Heng Long ...or metal Heng Long...also Taigen.. as they are keyed to your current gearboxes

Thank you Alpha for posting the pictures for me. The sprockets are Impact's T-66 ones that come with their T-66 tracks. When I first saw John's 1/6 build on his website, I REALLY wanted to eventually make one in 1/16, and used the pictures he posted as a "shopping list" to start buying parts. He made his own T-66 tracks, and I thought that's what the real thing would have eventually used, (and, I liked the way they looked, too, so I bought three sets of the Impact T-66 tracks & sprockets for it. Of course, then I later found out that I should have just stuck with the stock Tamiya plastic tracks...)
Anyway, the ONLY thing I've actually built for mine are these sprockets. The small brass shaft is what goes onto the output shaft of the Tamiya gearbox for the inner sprocket, and I needed something that I could JB Weld into the outside of this to drive the outer sprocket at the same time. There are a couple of motorized 1/16 kits that Tamiya makes - a Tiger I and a Tiger II, and these come with a 200-to-1 gearbox that simply lets the tank move forward under power. Because this gearbox is so much more narrow than the full-option double gearbox units; they provide an extended brass shaft that is long enough to reach outside the hull to bolt the sprocket on. I used one of these shafts for each sprocket set by filing some clearance notches on the inner edge so it would key onto the bolt detail of the inner sprocket. Then I drilled out the whole thing to pass a 5mm x 50mm capscrew through, and permanently JB Welded it into the inner sprocket. That allows me to pass this long capscrew through the outer sprocket (which keys onto the long brass shaft as normal); through the inner sprocket; and then screw into the small brass shaft attached to the gearbox.
I was also concerned about these double sprocket being under a lot of stress and really wanting to bend out of alignment. I am planning to use the white shower door rollers, (which came with bearings in them), into the outer skirt. These will fit right into the outer sprocket and - hopefully - keep everything straight. -Mike

Plus the wheels and tracks are extremely expensive! So I decided to go with the history incorrect walker bulldog wheels and tracks...

Not all that bad Shin..... It might be easier for me to translate that Sprocket set up into Heng Long ...as I have them in hand...and now that Sassgrunt has written down things more specifically .....
You'll have problems doing it with Walker parts.... especially the tracks... You might think more along the lines of Pershing Sprockets and tracks...the Tamiya axles easily changed to Heng Long ...use the same technique to secure it in the primary Sprocket...just make sure of the alignments.... I would say this is the easy part of building the T95

Scratch building isn't easy...it takes a lot of thought and planning... sometimes putting ideas down on paper is a good thing to do... it can be fun...it can also be a terror...
Take your time...allow things to formulate ...and you should be fine
