Anyway I have took the plunge and ordered a basic Heng Long Tiger 1 to see how I like it, even if I cant build it I can still detail it and it will also do something other than sitting static if I want...at least it will entertain my grandson and me.
Hello!
Hello!
Been lurking here for a while, used to make models when I was a youngster and now I have retired I have started to to make them again and I am favoring large scale models...how things have changed, I cant believe the price of some kits these days, I can remember making a Tiger tank kit not sure if it was Tamiya, but I don't think it was 1/16, but it did have two motors and was controlled by a wired hand unit.
Anyway I have took the plunge and ordered a basic Heng Long Tiger 1 to see how I like it, even if I cant build it I can still detail it and it will also do something other than sitting static if I want...at least it will entertain my grandson and me.

Re: Hello!
Welcome to the Board Tricky.... Not sure the HL Tiger was the best choice... seems like there was a 50/50 response to the New version... half have had their tracks drop off the other half everything is ok.....With that said... I purchased another one anyway lol....part of it to see what's up... the other to use it for another project
Things have changed ... small models are really not worth it any more.... These have evolved ... and are so much fun...as you get to watch your work...start up and cruise down the road untethered ...it's very cool ...hope you find it worthwhile as I have
Enjoy the Adventure and the board

Re: Hello!
That was the 1/25th Tamiya remote control Tiger. Built mine in 76 and I remember thinking man, that cost a lot, and man, that is a huge model compared to 1/35 or 48th!
As Alpha says times have changed. I think as we get older we need to go bigger just to get our shaky hands to work! And we need the bigger models just to see the damn detail!
Welcome and have fun but be prepared to drain the well!

Re: Hello!
Thanks for the welcome guys, so it was a Tamiya tiger1...made lots around that time, mid sixties, but that one stuck in my mind as one of the few that actually did something, and then I moved onto balsa flying models...gliders and control line, RC was very expensive then, but I do remember crashing a lot of them.

Re: Hello!
That's why I moved to tanks. Reflexes aren't what they used to be and battling in our club is a blast!
