El Mod Superspin Configuration

Post by B_Man »

I've been mucking about with my El Mod configuration settings and have attempted to reduce the super spin without much luck. The standard setting when I installed it was a Heng Long type of spin at full pace which I don't like so I have tried to make it more of a realistic slow turn. The issue I have run into is reducing the spin speed setting on the configurator software also somehow affects the overall speed of the motors in forward or reverse. The separate forward/reverse settings haven't changed but the tank moves at a crawl. :S

Has anyone else come across this issue or does anyone know what I'm doing wrong?

FIRST.... Sorry Bman.... I don't have a solution for you... I don't use aftermarket systems.... otherwise I would at least have a process for you to think about...What I do find about this inquiry is... it's a bit disconcerting... even though I know Elmod is one of the more pricey units ....that no one has yet stepped up to even suggest a thought
People will always knock Heng Long...but whenever there is a problem... there are more than a handful of people there to help...for me ...I have never had a problem with the "power spin" Heng Long has seemed to have gained a reputation for.... I do get it if I want it...but in most cases careful manipulation of the joystick is good enough
I can get crawling turns med speed turns and full speed turns with basic hand eye control ..I would say the only time I use the high speed turn is to check my tracks :haha: as putting my tanks into spins will reveal loose pins or what not :D

Many people tell me how good it is to change... I haven't yet been persuaded... as it seems there must be secrets to setting the aftermarket systems that no one wants to reveal ....Call me old fashioned...but that's why I enjoy the simplicity of the standard set ups ....9 out of 10 times they work.... and I would attribute that to their simplicity :D

It's just an observation Bman... no criticism on your choice...

I wish you Good Luck with your Inquiry

Have you contacted the owner of ElMod? He's fairly good at responding to questions.

I hear what you're saying ALPHA and I ran stock HL electronics for a long time. Once I upgraded though there was no going back, the sound effects, lighting and movement of El Mod is top notch and this is the first annoyance I have had with it. While this is a bit annoying, just the ability to be able to connect the board to a PC and modify the configuration and sounds makes it worth the expense for me. That said, it's horses for courses and if your happy with the stock gear then save the upgrade money for more tanks. ;)

Thanks for the suggestion billpe. I'll drop El Mod an email and report back.

I have to admit Bman...every time I hear the mention of modifiable sounds... it does make me drool... but like many others of my gen.. I'm not too computer savvy and really don't like downloading info into these sensitive machines that would be a computer ... I think the reason I am not sold on the idea of aftermarket units yet is that Factories like Heng Long are constantly changing the picture of RC tankery year by year now......though the sound is still not programmable ... with the interjection of the new gen 2.4 gig rigs.... control is smooth from top to bottom... and I can control the sound and smoke remotely ....the best aspect is that all that control is in one little box... not a mix and match of boards .... in many of my tanks space is critical... having a little box is way more convenient than trying to secure boards strategically enough as to squeeze all the components in ...open circuited boards to say the least

With that said.. I do respect what comes to the board...hearing and reading information given on aftermarket trinkets are helpful indeed... and I'm sure give there owners hours of pleasure which is basically the idea of the hobby :D

I emailed Thomas at ElMod who was very quick to reply but unfortunately he couldn't help as he was unable to replicate the issue. I did some more playing about and realised I had forgotten to calibrate the motors after upgrading the firmware on the main board. A couple of button presses later and I'm back in business.

Hi Send Thomas an e-mail and tell him what was wrong and how you fixed it, so he can tell other guys who may have this problem. When electrics have a glitch or something strange happens ,if you tell the guys who make it they can be on the look out for it and fix it with upgrades. If they don't get feedback they cant fix it.
I have an early version of el-mod and have never had a problem with it.

Many are now 100% plug and play and not all that expensive either. The sounds alone make it worth it. Elmod is just that bit better because it's so customizable in both sounds and movement.

That's kind of a cool thing to know ...and have in a system....didn't know you could calibrate the motors.... Does the Elmod have a built in speed controller ?

Thanks B man... always a good thing to learn something new :D

Hi there Bill... might be something I look into when the new Mato Metal Sherman line comes out...I mean if I'm going to lay out the money for one of those... may as well go with something different on the internals....not sure yet though... I like simplicity... so will have to do more research on the different systems available here in the states ;)
