M26 tank " ALICE "
Finally found the Life Magazine pictures of the real Tank ALICE. For those of you modeling it.
Found a better front shot. All photo's were taken for Life be Carl Mydans in Korea in 1950. It is believed to be near the Pusan perimeter.

Re: M26 tank " ALICE "
Good Morning,
These are very helpful, Green Giant. I haven't decided on late WWII or Korea yet for the Pershing redo I have started. Tamiya decals give an option for three vehicles so research is underway. Interesting to see that 'Alice' still has her sand skirts on.
regards,
Painless

Re: M26 tank " ALICE "
Looks like they took the shots Mid Day... Interesting how they have a deployed tent tied to the side of the tank and that must be water in the jerry can sitting in the shade... well ...then again it still could be gas
Must also not be a "hot" area ...they seem pretty relaxed..not worried too much about snipers...and it doesn't look like they moved much... that tank is butted right up against the pile of stones...cool pictures Giant

Re: M26 tank " ALICE "
The pictures have no info with other than they are dated 1950. Looks to me like their just off a little used road waiting to ambush whoever comes around the bend.
I'm surprised no one noticed that the tracks are on backwards.
For those who don't want to strain their eyes; under ALICE there is a stenciled U.S.A. Below that is stenciled 30127201. Under the drivers hatch it says FRENCHIE. Next to the star ( after much deliberation and blowing up the picture ) I think it says
26USA again stenciled. The unit markings 73 armored and C 12 Must be on the lower front hull.
Can anyone make out what is in the rear towing brackets. It has the normal device in one of each of the brackets but the other bracket also has something in it that hangs down, never seen anything like it in any other tank picture I've seen.

Re: M26 tank " ALICE "
I don't think so. Its upper section appears to be through the bracket. It's lower section has a handle sticking out. I was thinking it may be attached to a threaded center that can be screwed up or down to tighten. I can only speculate. Maybe to keep the towing arm in the other bracket in place. I don't see the normal push through keeper on the other rear towing arms like in the front picture view.
I've repainted the front of my ALICE.
