Thanks for jumping in Scalawag... I had other things on my mind ...and totally forgot the Africa Corpsscalawag wrote:As a basic guide,
As long as we are not talking about North Africa, panzer crews of both The Wehrmacht and SS wore black uniforms. Assualt gun crews wore field grey uniforms of a similar style.
The jackets are a short wrap style. For heer panzer troops the collar is piped in pink, and for SS the collar piping is silver. Heer jackets have a breast eagle insignia, and deaths head collar badges. SS jackets have standard SS collar runes, and a sleeve eagle.
Heer headgear carry the standard Wehrmacht cap eagle and roundel, for the SS caps have the SS deaths head and eagle.
Camouflage uniforms of various patterns and styles are common in SS units but less common for Heer units. Reed green coveralls can also be seen being worn regularly in pictures, and privately purchased items are also very common.
Two great books on this subject are:
The AK interactive book "Panzer Crew Uniforms"
http://www.bookworldws.co.uk/learning-s ... -6243.html
and the osprey book "Modelling Panzer Crewman Of The Heer"
Both of these books have lots of information on the uniforms worn by panzer crew, and also have guides on how to paint them.
Hope this helps.
