ok..just had a little play around with airbrush..same rubbish result as i got last time..! ???
i've got some tins of humbrol enamel sitting around and the thinners i have are humbrol enamel thinners so thought i'd give it a go..tried a 25%paint to 75% thinners and also a 50/50 mix but results were very similar..paints coming out but coverage is very thin..? looks like it'd take me about a day to spray a whole tank or the new tamiya humvee i have. with all the repeated coverings..!
i've ordered from ebay a couple o tamiya acryllics and will try the windscreen washer fluid mix (recommended by oz) but to be honest i'm not too optimistic of my chances.. >:(
as i mentioned before, there's so much info on airbrushing here on the net its an information overload..!!!
what am i doing wrong..??!!!
sorry to keep asking the same questions...

What type of airbrush are you using?

and are you using a compressor or a compressed air can?

OK lets start over, you tried a 25/75 then a 50/50 mix" so we know that didn't work for you,  take it up to 60 paint 40 thinners, but remember its best to give your model 3 or 4 thin coats instead of one thick coat, humbrol said their  paints were remade to make them easy to spray ( although i dispute this ) did you prime the model with car primer ?  with humbrol paints i think you really need to prime the plastic first, just add more paint to the airbrush jar until you get the coverage you want.....

oz..no primer involved..just spraying on paper and couple of odd bits of tank parts..i know the primer would have helped..! as usual i just go charging in like a bull in a china shop not really having any idea what i'm doing..!!! :P ;D
woz..will have a good read of that airbrush site..looks a great link..!
think i lost a post i was writing as replies came in as i was typing..
airbrush set was from ebay and is a cheapo mini compressor with a double action trigger gravity fed cup (which is very small) brush...

Always best to use a primer mate, Halfords do some good ones, I tend to use either primer grey or red oxide straight from your favourite shake can. I find undercoat is a must especially if the tank is made of different stuff, plastic, metal or PE bits for example, when you do it you will really notice the difference and will help with fewer top coats needed afterwards.

As some one has said 2 or 3 coats of thin are much better than trying one thick one. All you can do is try it yourself, all the advice in the world can be great but can't beat you doing it your self. Just prepare your family that your gonna swear a lot and throw things about and your good to go!

My airbrush was a cheapo off ebay (two air brushes + compressor £70+).

I've not had any problems yet as I've only used airbrush paints (no need to dilute them). When I get more confident I'll try mixing my own paints.
