Torsion bars round vs blade

Alpha,
I didn't notice any sideways variation but I did notice that the amount of bend in the loop was not the same. The bars I added to the back two sets on the KV-1 lower were of slightly different lengths to mate up with the end of the loop and be cemented into place. Could I see a pic of those troublesome clips? They may be different from what I worked with.

Yes, that is a different suspension than the one in the KV-1 lower hull. The ability to adjust the position of the swing arm and thus the tension in the bar is a step up from the system I am using. I don't see any 'C' clips here just the cast in part of the mount of the side wall that looks summat like a 'C'. Except for the diameter of the bars, the whole system looks beefier than the one I worked with on the KV-2. You can see the 'C' clips on my version. They hold the sleeve in position that keeps the bar in the arm mount.

There is a "C" shaped thing on the silver cap .... but I couldn't get a handle on it...you can also see the castellated ends... which could be turned for adjustment...not sure if this is old or new.... the hull I just got was a second hand purchase... the guy said he had it for three years ... and was selling it because he couldn't figure out how to adjust the suspension arms...I figured it out... but if I could have disassembled the whole thing... I could probably set the arms perfect ...right now they are a little inconsistent...but workable

Yours is completely different.... but still I would say replacing the rods with blades would make the current settings better... You're fortunate in this area because Tamiya makes the KV2.... so getting those blades will be easy

Thank you, I will definitely be on the look out for a good price on the blades then. It will make this suspension a little stronger and put off a complete swap out like the Corleis system for a few years. I ran the tank last night and was laughing in enjoyment. The weight makes the suspension work scale perfect. Looks so real and the tracks and running gear really get a work out. Add the IR and flash and sound and smoke, paint and details and this tank is easily my best so far.

Nothing beats a tank that make you smile eh Painless....guess that's one reason I get a little critical on how mine run...but I haven't regretted any build to date...they are all fun...so I very much know where you are coming from when playing with your KV...She's a real beauty...especially with the added effort on the paint

I went looking to see if a set of the MK-1 Tamiya torsion bars were out there for sale. The only place I could locate them was at Axle's Modelbau. Plenty in stock and reasonably priced, 7+ Euros. The shipping however, 35 Euros. I laughed and put the thought aside for now. The tank is running perfectly and the torsion bars will come available on some American or British site one of these days. I can try the experiment then. It does look as if they would work tho' from poring over Tamiya's manual for the KV-2

35 shipping? I've never paid more than 12 from them, even for entire 1:16 kits. I'd contact them and double check.
