Hi Impact, the tracks i have don't have the end cap sealed, you can see the pin on both sides, i take it this is the early version of the tracks (the ones i could afford LOL)
but from a distance you cant tell anyway. Yes i believe that the pins have a shoulder on them near the Pin head which is a nice tight fit once driven in. I managed to bend one of the pins!!!! i couldn't have got in aligned correctly, but there were some spare pins and links in the box.

again thanks for the info.

Dear Madbadger,
IMPACT Early KT tracks links' MLR pins ends are not encapped.
From your description, your KT Tracks MLR pins are the version 4 series, the "corked head type"
All the earlier versions are the "fin type".

I had explained earlier that early KT tracks was developed back in Sept 2006, released to market at Jan 2007.
During that time, we were not looking "deep" into details yet.

But since the released of early KT tracks, all IMPACT tracks later released tracks were about 99% cosmetically close to the real tracks, that is our mission, and that is our way.
When the life cycle of the early KT tracks toolings had ended (which will be about 5years later), we will mould it to
1. encap type.
2. put in another minor missing detail

Yes, we do know the Mato's soon-to-be released Sherman.  But IMPACT will not be doing the tracks or any of the part for Sherman.
HL, Mato, Matorro, WSN, etc are of different market segment to IMPACT.  The cost of those tanks is way below of Tamiya's, and toys maker will definitely make their own metal tracks.  The Customers for this market will always have sufficient of upgrade parts from the toy makers.

But, if Tamiya were to release their version of VVSS Sherman, IMPACT will definitely be making the matching tracks for it.  There is a very complicated market reason behind it, much too complicated to explain.

We believe that Mato Sherman will satisfied the Sherman Die Hard sufficiently for this long waited tank.

hi guys i got to say i'm really jealous madbadger, you got some impact tracks, i'm dieng to get a set of late Tiger 1 tracks myself, i think they are the best on the market at a reasonable price, i'll get some one day. i got to disagree with impact on one thing, though tamiya electronics are good, but not the best,
elmod in my opinion are miles better than tamiya, much much more versatile, and the quality is every bit as good as tamiya, i have a tamiya sherman, and i hope to swap out the electronics for elmod,

But the money saved on cheap tanks can be spent on better tracks. There are some people willing to spend a lot of money improving even the cheapest of tanks. I've just bought a (cheap) Matorro King Tiger and I'm looking into fitting Impact tracks and gearboxes as well as upgrading the electronics. So I'm looking to spend £250+ on a tank that cost me just over £50. If I'd bought a Tamiya I couldn't have afforded the upgrades.

i see your point, i couldn't find a Mattoro King Tiger, i would have liked one as i like the air soft gun. I got my KT second hand, paid £120 for it, it was the old twin clutch model, but now its similar to the tamiya setup with twin gearboxes twin motors. Up to yet its cost me around £360 all in, in fact i looked at a Tamiya KT today in a model shop £499 and that was without radio gear!!!

i think i have a bargain LOL the wife thinks otherwise........

cheers

here are some points for Tankers that wanted to buy low cost tanks and invest more money with the high end upgrade parts.
We will try to explain in simple English terms, not using technical terms.

This is about the electronics, the system that drives the left and right tracks:
1. The present motors that drives the tracks are at 380type.
In Mabuchi terms, it is called RS-380SH (4045)
http://www.mabuchi-motor.co.jp/cgi-bin/ ... D=rs_380sh
RS380 are stock motors in Tamiya's tanks.
HL/Mato/WSN/Matorro/etc did not use the original RS380 but a replicate made by a low end China factory.
similar motors can replaced the said motor, so long as the specifications are within the same category.

2. In order to drive the motor correctly, a correct driving current must be supplied from the circuit board.  It is the current that is moving the motors, not the voltage.

3. For the tanks, it is driving two motors, that requires to move the motors in
a. running at some direction of rotations
b. running at opposite direction of rotations (circuitry and algorithm complications are in this situation)

4. Due to that requirement, the design of supplying current becomes more complicated than just driving one motor (just a car, plane or boat).

5. Mato/HL/WSN/Matorro/etc design of the motor driving circuitry are very simple.  They use the low end FETs and the simplest design that requires the minimum number of FETs to drive the motors.
Furthermore, the algorithm used in the initial run of motors is poorly managed.
Hence, you will see Tankers blowing up the boards, and using cooling tools (cooling fins, heat sinks,  cooling fans, etc) to remedy this situation.

6. After changing to metal tracks and/or using high torque gearboxes (IMPACT called them TUs), it added extra load to drive the motors.  Which in term, requires more current to pump out of the circuit.

7. Hence, if Tankers were to upgrade to metal tracks and/or high torque TU/gearboxes, careful selection of motor driving circuit must be changed too.
If you used the original circuitry, they might not be able to drive the tank, and/or the tank will move at an extremely low speed.
This has nothing to do with a "weak metal gearboxes", this is all about the "power" driving the motors.

For Tankers' reference purpose only.

HL electronics work fine with a better heatsink and a cooling fan. I've added all the metal upgrades to my Tiger 1 and after almost three years I'm still on the original board.

From what I've read, Impact tracks and gears would be great for cheap tanks. They're well made ,run smooth and don't need breaking in. This means they'll put less strain on the electronics.

PS I was a TV engineer so I do understand a bit about electronics.
