Where do I get the turret 360 traverse kit for decent price?

Post by Marc780 »

I have an HL King tiger, tiger 1 and mark III, i'd like to make any or all of them have 360 turret traverse...on ebay they have the kits of course, but the only ones i can find are the ones from down under and the shipping costs more then the kit itself...does anybody know where else to buy the 360 turret kits?

I guess your on about the multi cable slip ring, I've not managed to find any cheap.

If you mean just to get 360 rotation, you simply need to cut a few extra teeth in the block on the turret ring gear.

Obviously this method you run the risk of getting all the cables in the a not so I tend to remember to only do 1 full turn and then other way.

Also Imex models over in USA are selling a 360 conversion with a small slip ring no idea of cost though.

ha, on about, not exactly sure what that means but Thanks tankbear! I didn't know you could just cut the gears...Hobbyraw has it for the leapard tank, only, and its $20 US shipped. A lot of cable splicing, no way round it. But all this kit is, is an electrical part known as the "slip ring" that allows the wires to rotate with one end of it stationery. The slip rings you can get from flEabay but there's a dozen different types. The one with the kit has the correct type and number of wires and so there's no guesswork. Hobbyraw where i got the image, is not the fastest shipping in the world so i was looking for another source.
If I were a vendor instead of just a model tank hobbyist i'd get a Chinese source and have them purpose made so they are plug in, a simple swap for the turret multi wire. the kit they make now is the usual Chinese half-baked, makeshift product so you have to become an electrician apprentice and spend half a day doing it.

If you can just cut the teeth then just remember to wind the turret back where it was-maybe thats the easiest way to go? Still thinking it over, so many small jobs that still need to be done on all three of them in my micro tank platoon, something for when i run out of chores.

Hi
I have 4 tanks now that I converted to 360', As tankbear said it is easy to cut new teeth on the rotational ring, and then on E-bay I just typed a search for "slipring" in and straight away there is a 12 wire 2 amp capacity unit from Hong Kong for £7.95 with free P&P. these unit are similar to the ones I used in my conversion. (A word of warning you will have to fabricate a means of fixing the slipring body to the hull and also have to be fairly good at soldering to wire the unit in), I'm no expert and all told, it took me about 1/2 a day to convert each tank and do the job neatly.
I can take some pictures of my tanks if you wish, but each tank will be slightly differant.
Hope this info is of some help

Mark, I have cut the teeth on several of these. Easiest way I've found is to mount two of them back-to-back (one stop-block to the front and the other to the rear), and use an x-acto saw to cut the stop-block using the teeth of the other as a guide. Although I recognize the possibility of twisting the wires too tightly by spinning the turret too many times; I think that I would rarely not want to reverse direction and have the turret come back to front & center; so I don't consider all of the effort to put in a slip ring to be worthwhile. Just my 2 cents. -Mike

I must agree with sassgrunt. One of the first things I do is cut the extra teeth in the turret rings. I make sure that when I put everything back together there is as much extra wire as possible pulled down into the hull and bound together and hotglued to the upper hull before they reach their individual solder points. Doing this I can get 3 revolutions before I have to start to reverse the direction to unwind the tension on the wires. It's free and I have not had an instance where I needed to traverse more then 3 times around in one direction.
