I always say anything is possible... As tankbear pointed out ....I don't own a Hobby Engine... but I would imagine the Hull has plenty of room for that 2.4 rig... it's way simpler ...and the performance ..to me anyway is well worth the effort
I also am not sure of how your current gearboxes hook up... you might have to do a little fiddling ..perhaps even get some plugs that will go into the 2.4 gig RX
But if you are up to the task... I would certainly encourage you to go for it...take your time doing it though....especially if this is your first mod...there are a lot of things that will be alien to you lol.... alignment is the key though... so when placing things...do it temporarily first .... see if the upper will close properly ... and move things accordingly ...Then and only then make them permanent ;)
The positive thing about doing this is it will give you more experience as you progress in the hobby ...also once you get some Heng Long metal gearboxes in there..you are sure to be able to pull those metal tracks

The best thing is you are here... and can always make inquires if you run into problems.... be patient with us though lol... sometimes it's hard to troubleshoot from verbal description... pictures help... but our hands are not there with you

Good Luck... sounds like a worthwhile project...just stay calm and have fun

Yes that would be a good upgrade. Like Alpha mentioned it's not a straight swap as all the plugs on the hobby engine are different. If you could get hold of a wiring kit like this
http://www.welshdragonmodels.co.uk/set- ... 1545-p.asp
This will have everything you need and just need to join wires.
Start with the easy items (power, speaker, volume)
Move onto the motors.
Then the biggy is the 8 wire for the rest of the functions, but again sort the easy ones first so turret turn (that's 2 wires down),
The next 3 wires are the recoil and elevation (shared +), The hobby engine has 2 for recoil, 2 for elevation so need to find + and join.
The last 3 wires are the headlights and machine gun. Now the Heng Long uses 3 wires (shared +) but the hobby engine uses 2 wires (headlight), 2 wires (taillights), 2 wires machine gun. So just need to figure out the + and join etc.
