Late tiger 1 tool positions and exhaust shrouds
Hi all im thinking of making over my mid proddy tiger1 to late production, ive got the steel road wheels already from forgebear and taigen metal reinforced lower hull on order, however i know late models had spare c hooks on top deck at front near where tools were around front hatches area and on rear plate. Is the toolset in different positions on lates. if so would anyone have a pic/image/thread of theirs showing this. Also i understand that late proddys had different exhaust set up is this similar to the kt setup as ive seen a resin conversion kit from a German seller for a late tiger 1 that seems to be same exhaust setup as the kt.

Tiger tiger is looking for information on a late build. Tom's is a initial production so quite different in the detail.

Re: Late tiger 1 tool positions and exhaust shrouds
Thank you all for the help and advice, made a start last night on it with the hull deck mods and turret mods. Wont be altering the turret position on the deck at this time. Removed the pistol port and wood jack block, redid turret zimmerit, removed spade from front glacis plate and redid zimmerit there as well luckily had some spare zim sheets which were for late production tiger 1. Got to fill hole in deck left by jack block as it was an old hl deck all moulded in.

Like your methodology tiger...will also probably do a little mod to my Tiger in the future.... not going to bother with the old HL deck.... doing research ..and might just try to acquire a Taigen or Tamiya decktiger tiger wrote:Thank you all for the help and advice, made a start last night on it with the hull deck mods and turret mods. Re: Late tiger 1 tool positions and exhaust shrouds
Hi tiger tiger,
I have been looking for a good contemporary picture of the Late tool positions myself, but came up blank. From my searching I have fitted the tools on my late Tiger I in positions which I believe to be as near as can be confirmed.
This is were I have placed mine:

As best as I have been able to find out, The C clamps were added from Sept 43, the glacis shovel was discontinued in Jan 44, and the tool positions amended in Feb 44. As with all things Tiger I changes are really more of an evolution and tanks leaving the factory in the same month may not have had the same details.
The site which Tom suggested is a good starting point to understanding the details and when they were changed.
One other difference you may wish to consider is the Inertia start crank handle. On early tanks this is a one piece crank handle stored on the right lower hull. When the engine was changed to the Maybach HL230 in May 43 a new 2 piece crank handle was also introduced. A straight shaft was retained in position on the lower right rear (this is moulded onto the H/L and Taigen Tigers), and a separate L shaped handle was stored by the arial mount on the top deck. This was held in place by 2 clamps. This is the best pic I could come up with of how this handle was fitted, sorry it is not great but it should give you the general idea.

This needs doing on my late Tiger but I am waiting to update the tow cables first.
Hope this helps.
