Hi:
I'm here to learn and play. B :haha: I found this great playground whilst looking at rc,dcc controls for my mixed bash of narrow gauge (minded) trains. Diddle with HOn3, ON30, and my favorite Fn3.
These translate to. 1:87, 1:48, and. 1:20.3 All on their respective 3' gauge track.

Ordered a couple of dead tanks. Yup dead. @) 1:24. So reasonably close to the 1:20.
Want to to tear into them and see what makes em tick, 8O

Got a couple of LH. smokers coming to see what they have to offer. See if they are usable in the Fn3 engines.

Anyone using explosive pellets with the tank cannon? Or is that a no-no. Don't have any guns on the trains.

Welcome John
did HO and O scale a time long long ago :haha: The 1/16 scale smokers might work if you strip them down to their finite elements... thing you might have issue with is the voltage... running blow dryer elements might work more efficiently

The smaller scale tanks are fun... but not really in the same category as the ones modelled here...these IMO are more fun... as they are more responsive and detailed...Unfortunately they are scaled more toward the "live steam" scale.. :O

are you referring to Paintball pellets? if you are... when I first joined I did read that some members actually do..me? ... after doing airsoft for a few years... never touch them.... never will touch them as I have seen what they can do to a gearbox

Welcome to the board... and the adventure..hope you find useful things

Glad to have you aboard John. Alpha's right about the smokers by HL, they are made to work at around 7 volts and are known for their short lifespan and small smoke output. I to did trains long ago HO and N but was moving around a lot and got tired if tearing them up all the time. still have a dozen or so n scale pieces in my junk box.
I've seen video's of 6mm painballs being used in airsoft tanks but cleaning up the hits is hard unless done right away also a single shot 22 cal in a 1/16 scale tank that exploded what it hit.
I keep my full auto 50 cal paintball gun ( Marker to be politically correct ) as they were first used to mark trees in forests for cutting, to shoot at the damn gray squirrels that chew into anything made of wood to build nesting spots.

Ah.... now I understand where you got the idea for your diorama modules Giant :D .....at the local club here...we used to do those...assembled it was huge.. so yeah I know where you are coming from when you refer to disassembling and storing ...left that hobby awhile ago.... but I understand the club has moved ... and gotten away from the modules to a permanent layout
As far as the 6mm paint bbs went.. they were just bad news... I also did tech work ... and when those things burst in the hop up...and the dies get drawn into the air chamber... it was a real mess to clean...not to mention how they would jam the mech ...reason I never used them in mine

Happy Tanking Gents
