New guy on RC TANK WARFARE
Hello everyone. My name is Robert and I currently live in San Diego, California, USA. I just recently discovered this site from another modeling friend and had to join! I love everything about WWII German armor & hope to build a collection of Panzers in 1/16 scale in the near future. My first project will be Tamiya's 1/16 scale Tiger 1 early production model. This kit is the static version & features no RC. Because of the high price of the Tamiya kits, I will be venturing into the Heng Long series of tanks. I am getting quite a deal on the Tamiya Tiger ($250) so that is the only reason I am able to purchase it. I look forward to learning more about constructing & improving the Heng Long series of tanks in addition to improving my own skills in armor modeling. I look forward to making new friends & viewing other peoples work on this page.

Hallo Robert, Welcome to the Forum, Now the first thing I have to say is that you are one of the few people who starts with a TAMIYA and then goes to the HENG LONG Tanks. and the second thing I have to say is that recently we have been fortunate in welcoming a number of citizens from California and I am sure we would love more people from the USA and CANADA and now I think about it just about every where to come and join us.I hope you enjoy this place, and we look forward to any thing you can offer in the way of helpful advise, preferably on matters Tank, we are not to good on fish recipes. shaun

Hello and welcome,
The Tamiya static Tiger is a great entry into large scale armor. Before your next purchase though, make sure to check the 'vendor blacklist', 'recommended vendors' and 'things to fix on your new tank' sections down below to help you make your choice.
Heng Long tanks are decent for their price, but some of them are really inaccurate and need a lot of work to bring to any standard.
Tamiya models are on the whole excellent in every way, but even they could do with some additional work to make them even better.
Mato and Torro I have no experience with myself, but seem to fit in between HL and Tamiya in every way.

Re: New guy on RC TANK WARFARE
Thanks Shaun. The Tamiya Tiger will be my 1st ever large scale tank & Im getting a great deal on it, $250 including photo etched screens, is the reason why Im starting with a Tamiya. There are of course, other Tamiya Panzers I would LOVE to have but the cost is way out of my budget. Yes, from what I have observed on this page, some aspects of the HL tanks seem inaccurate or toy like in appearance. I believe with some upgrades like photo etch, etc. & careful painting, weathering, etc. a respectable appearance can be made with the HL tanks. I saw a late war Panther tank that I thought at 1st glance was a Tamiya version but was in fact the HL tank. Im not a "rivet counter" per say & if some inaccurate details are present, I can live with it as long as the overall tank looks like a Tiger, Panther, Stug III, etc.jarndice wrote:Hallo Robert, Welcome to the Forum, Now the first thing I have to say is that you are one of the few people who starts with a TAMIYA and then goes to the HENG LONG Tanks. and the second thing I have to say is that recently we have been fortunate in welcoming a number of citizens from California and I am sure we would love more people from the USA and CANADA and now I think about it just about every where to come and join us.I hope you enjoy this place, and we look forward to any thing you can offer in the way of helpful advise, preferably on matters Tank, we are not to good on fish recipes. shaun
