Is there any reason this wouldn't be able to fit on a HL tiger 1 ?
Thanks :)

Hey there Mark... it'll fit...but unless you're building a Porsche Tiger... it'll kind of look funny

but don't take my word for it... I'm no historian... but I've never seen a normal Tiger fitted with that box

:haha: :haha: :haha: Always after my pictures :haha: :haha: ...rest assured that is a Panzer IV box... the same one Mark had in mind to use...
Like I aforementioned I am no Historian by any means.... but as far as the Porsche Tiger is concerned ...it is in my line up for future builds... without spending the mega dollars required...close enough will be good enough ;)

Here are more pics...and the links just in case they don't stick

Hi Mark,

The initial Tigers to leave the factory (Aug -Nov 1942) were not fitted with Turret stowage bins.

There is some photographic evidence that at least one unit (S Pzr abt 502) fitted some of these very early machines with Pzr III turret bins. This unit was equipped with Pzr IIIs as well as Tigers when first formed as the Tigers were in short supply. So it would make sense that they would use Pzr III turret bins as that is what they probably had to hand.

The same unit also seems to have fitted some early Tigers with a smaller single turret bin to the left side of the turret.

These are all early (initial) Tigers, identifiable by the lack of side fenders or mounts for them, or early open ended side fenders, and no front fenders. Another early feature is the second pistol port on the right rear of the turret which can be seen in the second pic.

Others units may well have added stowage bins in a similar way, but I am only aware of the ones from 502. They got a lot of the initial Tigers.

I believe the stowage bins began to be fitted at the factory some time in Jan 1943.

Hope this is helpful,

Paul

   Very good Scalawag... I was hoping a historian would come in with more info on this... as I was pretty sure there must have been some examples of Tigers out there with that Panzer III/IV box :D

Thanks guys :) I have seen a few of those pics and that's what gave me the idea, I want to swap out the HL one if I mess it up trying to fix the shape :S
however I have found a tamiya one and will use that :) I want to stay on the tiger 131 theme, was just thinking of this if things got botched. Cheers and thanks again for the help :D
