My HL JP comes with late style flame-dampening exhausts, like these:
My question is:
Did these rust a lot like exhausts tend to do, or did they just keep their paint as in the pic of this model? I'm asking to make up my mind whether to rust up the flame-dampers on my HL JP or not.
If you have color pics of the real thing, that would help a lot.

Good call mate. The covers you see are heat shrouds that cover the exhausts & are supposed to reduce the visible discharge as much as possible by redirection of gas flow & sparks. You Tube the JP from WTS Koblenz and you will see even in daylight the discharge is quite noticable from the vertical stacks. Makes sense to divert the flow flat for sure.
If the exhaust gas flow hits any part of the cover, it will soon oxidise the paint & over time, this area will appear to rust to some degree. But as to how long & how much this effect would be on these machines in real life has many variables.
I have a picture of a King Tiger with very bizzare looking covers. I will post it if I can find it.
Found it. No phot source sorry its been in favourites for ever.
looks like the crew has felt a bit envious of the panther men & got down on a set of exhaust shrouds !!
