1/6 Scale US Dodge WC52 RC Weapons Carrier

Post by markrussell »

Hi I have just finished building this (crossed a Taowan 1/6 metal truck with 1/6 21st Century Humvee mechanics). Well it took about 3 hours on Saturday afternoon!

That is a beautiful piece of engineering, Mark - you did a great job of making it run. Some years ago, I bought the plastic "Patton" WC-56 Command Car (far more in line with my budget than the Taowan) with any eye of turning it into an M6 (the WC-52 with the Dragon 37mm M3 gun on the back). Yours looks great and is an inspiration to get started on mine. Thank you for sharing it. -Mike

Ok thats interesting. Nice work

Given that my Summer project is the aforementioned 21st Century Wc 56 what did you use for the running gear please?

Mark used a 21st Century Humvee for his. I am planning to use Tamiya TXT axles on mine. They're not quite wide enough, so I'm finding that if I make 'adapter" inner hubs to bolt the WC-56 wheels onto, that makes it wide enough to fit the body. But then, the front axle steering pivots are further in than they should be, and the front wheels don't look quite right when turning. I do not know a lot about the various RC4WD axles, but they may have something more suitable.

I have a few crawler RC cars and wide trucks, what would be the ideal axle width measuring to the inside of the wheels Sassgrunt? I'll have a look and see if I have anything that may suit. Also what is the diameter of the original kit tyres?

Hi Crispy. The kit tyres are approximately 15Omm in diameter, and about 45mm thick. The 'adapters' I've made to bolt the stock wheels onto the TXT axle makes the inside-of-the-wheel dimension about 260mm; giving a total outside width of about 340mm, (and it really needs to be closer to an overall width of about 310mm, to fit well under the body). I'll look at trying to modify the adapters, and see if I can bring the wheels inward a bit. -Mike
