how I build my temperary dioramas.
Many have commented on my dioramas and some have asked how I build them. This is how in pictures.

Very Clever Giant
It's almost like looking at miniature movie sets

Yes that is it exactly. All you need are a bunch of separate pieces that you can arrange on whatever size bases you have room for. See my PZ4J post on show off to see how it turned out.

Do feel a bit crestfallen when you break it down & pack all the material away ?

I'd say it's still a very good tip Giant....It's something everyone can do especially since it can easily be stored away

Its is a good tip, I imagine once you are good at it, the lot can travel fairly easily if required (for shows and suchlike)

Re: how I build my temperary dioramas.
As long as I have That particular space available I just set up a diorama and let it sit as a display until I either set it up for a new photo shoot are get tired of looking at the same thing at which time I change it. It would be a good way to transport and set up a diorama without having to worry about breaking one that is permanently fasted to its base.
Re: how I build my temperary dioramas.
Hey Herman... I think your kind of diorama is better for a show or contest.... as it depicts a specific situation...modular units like Giant's seem better for photographs..the portability of each unit and because you can "dress" them to match any backgroundHERMAN BIX wrote:Its is a good tip, I imagine once you are good at it, the lot can travel fairly easily if required (for shows and suchlike)
There are less flaws in something like what you did for your Jagd... where this style gives way to flaws..which can then be photoshopped
i did something like what Giant did long ago... but it was more of a cross between the well detailed type you do and a base that could be re dressed... so it wasn't quite "modular"in size..but depiction of event
The base was used for two contests ...one year apart... at the same hobby shop's event...two different genres... won ribbons in both.... one a land battle scene..the other and event on a carrier ... the land scene was a German rail yard scene...the carrier a Corsair being towed on deck...same platform just reconfigured...tracks pulled off and depot changed to a carrier tower ....the only way you could tell it was the same base...was I intentionally left a cut in the board on the left lower corner ..which for the train scene was a track side loading dock... and on the carrier ..the edge of the elevator and the center of focus was the same

I guess the point is... if the diorama is detailed... there are advantages... modular not as detailed but adjustable and flexible in motif not so much... modular and well detailed with specific depiction..so not so adjustable as portable for a show.. just as good as a non modular one...mine was middle ground...sort of... still have it...though everything has been stripped models gone... only the landing stripes of the carrier deck still exist ...to me it's no longer a diorama...but a piece of wood still modular as I can turn it into something else ...so long it's 1/72nd scale

Have a good one Herman
