Re: Gearbox question.
Basically I'm trying to get my metal elefant/Porsche tiger chassis going so I can do something with it. Currently I have some tamiya gearboxes set aside for it. However to use these will require some custom shafts making up which I've struggled with. So I'm thinking so long shaft black steel 3:1s might do the job
Re: Gearbox question.
Sounds like a good plan Tom... just have to get those calipers out to be sure.

I do really need to pull my finger out with it as it's languished far to long in my bits box! Sadly the old story of too many irons in the fire, not enough time to do them all.

Re: Gearbox question.
FYI, HL T-34 metal track/drive wheels uses a shorter shaft as I just converted a Pershing steel to T34 by swapping the output shafts and final steel gear. ...Also had to grind the inner-rear-housings-lower edge (leaving just enough meat to hold the bushing) for chassis clearance. Hope this help those who want to upgrade to steel, as there isn't one specific for the T-34 yet.ALPHA wrote:JagdPanther...PantherG ... King Tiger... Pershing.... T34...Leo....I think![]()

Re: Gearbox question.
King Tiger, Leopard 2A6, KV-1, Pershing, Panther, Jagdpanther, Walker Bulldog are all long shaft.tomhugill wrote:Which henglong gearboxes have the longest shafts?
Tiger, Pantiger. Sherman, PZIII, PZIV, T-34 are all short shafts
On the Taigen metal KV-1 their brass 4 to 1 short shafts will fit the KV-1 as long as you use the stock metal drive and idler wheels.
Walterson branded tanks are as above as is Taigen branded product. Under the assumption Torro and Taigen are cross branded I would think the above would be for them as well.
Walterson gears are the same but you need correct mounting plates ie Tiger will fit into a Sherman and vice versa if you have the right mounting plates. Long shafts are the same as the gearbox is the same But with Walterson you need correct mounting plates.
Walterson Plates -Tiger, Pantiger, PZIII, PZIV are all the same ( T-34 plates are coming but could be T-34 specific )
Sherman plate is specific to the Sherman
Panther, Jagdpanther, KV-1, King Tiger are one group ( I think the Leo 2 would take this config as well but have none to prove this )
Pershing, Walker Bulldog are another plate
Mato gearboxes are the generalist and have long and short shafts with various mounting plates like the Walterson items but as far as I know they don't have tank specific mounting plates.
