JASO the best alternative to the Heng Long smoker is the SUPER SMOKER 11 which was first built by Phil Pfulger of blessed memory, after his too early passing the build was taken on and is still available from www.radiocontrolcustomtanks.com, It is not cheap as it is built in the USA and is priced at $55 plus postage, I have never seen one but they are very highly rated by people using them. shaun

Jaso444 wrote:So I left the cotton piece on the tissue for a day and the cotton seems a lot dryer, however, the part wrapping around the black wire (which I'm guessing is the heating element) is still a bit damp. After trying it out, there still is no smoke. So my question now is. So I leave it to dry completely, or drop a few drops of oil into the exhaust pipe? :|

Thanks!
Does it still heat up? check your plug to the RX... make sure it's seated...if you didn't fuss with the wick or the element ... it should work again... if not ...it's possible the element cracked ...it's only a very thin wire...thinner than the wire holding the wick..and is very brittle
Smokers aren't that expensive though... varies from about 7 to 10 dollars us

These guys sell them in pairs...I don't recommend you go with them if you are in the UK

These are the digital models also sold in a pair

Have a good one Jasso

Thanks for the reply guys

Well it seems that my heating element has died
But I have a spare unit but didn't buy the pipes that lead the smoke out :-<
Well the super smoker looks really tempting although will the heating element last longer than the Heng Long smoker? I know the Heng Long unit has a history of unreliability and so will this $55 SuperSmokerII last a few month/even years of continues use?

Thanks Peeps! B|

Hi Jaso444

Just my opinion, but these black and orange H/L smokers are not worth the time and effort.

The newer Taigen ones which are made of clear plastic are better I have found. I get mine from here

http://www.rctank.de/SMOKE-UNIT-HL-NEW-VERSION_1

I know the page says they are H/L but when they arrive they are branded as Taigen. They are a direct swap for the H/L units however and are more robust with a stronger element. They also seem to be quieter when running. They are still susceptible to over filling (but you know about that now) but they seem to me to be much more reliable.

I swap out the black ones for one of these now as soon as a new tank arrives.

These smokers will run best on a very small amount of smoke fluid, and adding more will generally just affect the performance adversely. More fluid does not equal more smoke in this case. :D

Observe all of this and these will last a lot longer than the stock ones.

The super smoker has a thicker element...so runs at a higher heat....here's the drawback IMO... power draw....as a whole the smoker is one of the options that drains your battery... it's a cool feature for close quarter play...I run mine only once in awhile... as I rather play with my tanks than see the smoke ...reason I just stick with the stock smoker...I cannot stress this is my personal choice... and reason I never upgraded

Here's a couple of impressive videos I found from when I was thinking about upgrading
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LF5ZATNu1V0
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JHgdg0_Z40g
It's pretty cool to watch... but if you look at how many upgrades they had to do to get their tanks to that point.. for me it wasn't practical ;)

Good Luck

Disregarding the SMOKER for a minute, if you look at the top right of this page you will see a WHITE box, type "tank won't start"in the box, and click on the SEARCH BUTTON by the box and you will get a list of related comments, scroll down to the comments "TANK WON'T START" and click on those items that are closest to your problem, as to the smoker my view is they are not really worth it for the trouble they cause BUT I know I am in the minority, so scroll down to the ELECTRONICs section and click on SMOKER, you will get pages of information on the things and if you are still none the wiser FORGEBEAR on E-BAY and http://www.welshdragonmodels.com will sell you a replacement, hope that helps. shaun
