I started with RX-18s and then onto Taigen 2.4Ghz (HL didn't have a 2.4Ghz set-up then) and then moved onto Clark/Hobby Grade radio. In hindsight I didn't regret moving onto Taigen as an interim solution as it is reasonable cheap and also quite robust. The only unfortunate part is that everytime I upgrade my core system my "fleet" got bigger, but that just part of life.
Marc I think you will be quite happy with either the Taigen or the HL 2.4Ghz (I guess it is HL now !) and you will know when you need to upgrade to a hobby grade radio and receivers/MFUs. With just two tanks you really couldn't justify moving up to a hobby grade set-up and the HL 2.4 Ghz should solve most your current issues.
If you just want to pick-up and go without worrying too much about the set-up, Taigen and HL 2.4Ghz is the simplest.

Is it worth upgrading to the Heng long 2.4 mhz radio system?

Thanks for the replies...As it happens I already do own a 6 channel r/c aircraft transmitter. So I did give the Clark board a look if only for pricing. I assume the board is not the only thing you'd need to buy and $75 - $100 for the Clark board itself is just the beginning of it..what about the wiring and all that?
I'll give these new upgrade parts a try...With owning two tanks it's probably worth the $80. If all that I've done so far doesn't make for at least one good running tank I reckon I'll give up the hobby at least for a long while!

I agree with Woz... the HL 2.4s are a big improvement ...you get more range...more stability.. less wires to mess with...no receiver board ...no trims to mess with... My two T-34s with the 2nd gen 2.4 systems run like a charm
Good Purchase Marc... Good luck with them

Clark board is running just under $100 USD each right now. It is somewhat tank specific as the sounds are unique to each tank but there isn't one for KT. The closest I can think of is the JadgPanther board since on paper anyway they have the same engine and the main 88mm kwk 43. The wiring is pretty well the same as RX-18 but you will have to do some re-wiring depended on what kind of tank you have (IR you will have to rewire, BB is a swap in and out).
The radio/receiver though is a little more complicated. I think it will only work with a select few and you really need to have the right firmware loaded up as well so I am not too sure how sharable it is with an aircraft transmitter. Tankbear has an excellent article on the various options if you do a search on the forum, and it is not just clark but also SLU, IBU, etc etc.
Anyway try out the new HL 2.4Ghz set-up and I think you will find that it is 80-90% there.

Marc if you already have the plug fitted wiring for your Heng Long Tank then all you do is unplug from your present board and plug into the Clark or IBU2, if you do not get a diagram of where the plugs fit then go to Clarks site and you will find it there. nothing else to buy just a little bit of fun Binding your Clark board or the IBU2 to your transmitter, of course if you go the TAIGEN 2.4 GHz board route then it is just the same, you switch the plugs over to the new board and all done. Whatever you decide good luck. shaun

I was comparing a Heng Long / Taigen board with an IBU2 I never mentioned Tamiya simply because I do not think anyone would swap TAMIYAs electrics for HENG LONG / TAIGEN unless you want to be the first? go on, you never know it might improve it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
