on/off wiring..rx 18 switch
hi chaps is this on of switch wired correct.... .... wire 2 red and 2 black it fries wire as is nothing ,

Hi mate looking at your photo its wired wrong. That type of switch has the centre pole as the input and either one end or the other is the output, and normally you would only switch one of the wires ie. either +positive or -negative at any one time. inside the switch there is a slider thats makes the contact and unless the switch is maked as a dual pole switch it will short if both negative and positive are connected at the same time.
You could use this switch to switch the positive, So that in one position power is on to the tank and in the other position Tank power is off and battery charge socket is on.

The only sure way is to put a meter on it and see just what contacts is being switched.

You need to bring power in on the centre contacts. It will then switch to the outside contacts, depending on which way you slide the switch.

This is how a switch like that is wired internally:

In the first position, the red and black wires are connected.
In the second position, the red and green wires are connected.
The green and black wires never become connected.
So to make it an on/off switch, you'd need to hook up the center nubs and either of the outer nubs - the red and green wires or the red and black wires in my picture.
