Good Morning,
As the RX-18 was a step up from the previous models, the 2.4GHZ version was slightly better than that and the Taigen version of that board is better still with a solid TX and smoother performance. I'm not sure if it is as Alpha has said and the weight of the tank factors in but I have used two of the Taigen series 2.4GHz sets in a Sherman and a Panther so far and found them superior to everything that I used before. I am sure that the IBU2 board is vastly better with moddable sounds and real world RC options. I am looking at one for the KV-2 and as with you, Cup, price is a consideration. Your grandson can have the Taigen 2.4GHz set for around 120.00 U.S. and neither of you will be disappointed. It is better than the HL 2.4GHz set and the Mato 2.4GHz set, speaking at least from my experience. If you want a real, quality RC board, save up for the IBU2.
regards,
Painless

Thanks Alpha and Painless
The only IR battling he is likely to do is with me so the IR side of things is not too great a consideration. His primary consideration is to get on 2.4ghz because of the increased range and also because something in our area interferes with 27mhz from time to time.

Just a pennies worth more Cupoftea... both my Heng Long T34s came stock with the 2.4 gig units... the range is twice if not more than any of my crystal units

Hi, guys!
Me and my son had tested range of the Taigen 2,4 GHz system and it was aprox 180 meters, that is much more than with RX-18. And the controll is much better.

cupoftea,

I have converted my fleet from Taigen 2.4Ghz to Clark last year, but I have nothing but good thing to say about the Taigen system. From a pick up and go perspective, it is simple and mindless which is very convenient. In fact I kept couple of one offs on Taigen until the very end and it wasn't really a big deal as I could have kept it around anyway. If you can get a good price for a kit it is the best bang for the buck in terms of needed to move to 2.4Ghz.

ALPHA It gives me no pleasure to tell the world that you are a trouble maker @) One of the big attractions of the Clark board and the IBU2 is that they are just like the RX18 or the 2.4 Taigen boards in that they are all plug and play, Your not in the pay of these Chinese makers I hope? :shifty: shaun
I think I am about to upset someone :haha:
