stug mantlet
hi guys,
i always thought there was something i didn't like on my stug.
so i've bought the pig nose mantlet from wdm
but how the hell do you fit it?
i've managed to get the old one off which was quite a game in itself.
short of gluing it directly to the recoil unit i don't see any other options.
has anyone fitted this?
thoughts greatly appreciated
cheers

Re: stug mantlet
lister,
You have to unscrew the old mantlet from the recoil/elevation mount and then glue the new one directly onto the frame of the recoil/elevation mount. That's the only way I believe. I couldn't figure out any other way when I did mine.

Re: stug mantlet
lister,
I kept the recoil/elevation frame behind the mantlet so everything is the same once it is inside the hull. Here is some pics. Hope it helps:

Re: stug mantlet
Yup. I think there is also a little screw at the bottom that you need to remove to separate the old mantlet from the mount.
The waffle pattern zim is the pre-fab Atek zim. They are pretty good. I have it on the side skirt as well, but don't have the skill set to put it on the front access panel as you can see......

Re: stug mantlet
The Atek stuff is nice but it isn't custom fitted to the Stug, just sheets of the waffle pattern which means it is impossible to do any area with hatches/covers etc. This is the extend that it can be covered with my skill set:

With the stamps you can just do the usual putty style which would be more realistic for sure (I don't have the skills). Also the Atek zim you can't really chip or weather it too well either.

Re: stug mantlet
thanks for the link, that's one lovely looking stug
not sure about the waffle pattern but zim is not that hard to apply.

i really should of hung on till i've done the rear hatch before i said that
it's not perfect but after it's got a few coats of paint on, i think it will look ok.
was made with a gear cog & a screwdriver
cheers
