I have the HL King tiger and now that I've started modding it with additional hull bracing and other changes-I'm having trouble thinking of a way to secure the upper hull.
The front screws are still usable (although I want to fill the holes in and paint over them). The rear section is what has me stumped...I Dremeled off the screw extensions to make more room in the back, I plan to relocate the rx board and a fan closer to the engine grates for cooling...now I can't think of a way to secure the hull! I tried gluing magnets (the glue fell off, any magnets strong enough to he useful wants to grab everything in the tank and strong magnets are bulky)nd I'd like to avoid drilling holes at least in a place where they show) .. I've thought of adding springs (not many mounting spots, most springs are too weak anyway, and interfere with other parts...) I searched but found nothing. .. Does anyone have the favorite best method of securing the hulls?

Hi Mark,
I attach the upper hull always the case that I put it on the front and rear secure with two neodymium magnets. To glue the magnets I use STABILITH express. This keeps on metal like plastic.

Hello Mark... I haven't used this method...but I've heard..some modellers use hinges with magnetic cabinet catches ...the upper will open like the deck lid of a car.... and the push lock magnetic catches like that of a cabinet when you close it ...so the hinge would be mounted either front or back of the hull.. and the catch on the opposing side ...in your case ...the catch could be mounted to one of your braces

Marc, Hallo, A valued member of this Forum "DIETRICH" taught me how to install magnets that will hold a Tank together, First you have to get the right magnets,if you go to the following site look for NEODYMIUN MAGNETS http://www.first4magnets.com
you will see a range of different shapes and sizes I would recommend 10mmO.D. x 3mmI.D. x 2mm part number F102N (north) and F102S (south) they come in packs of ten and are round with a hole in the centre, this allows you to screw them into place, you place the north opposite the south and they need to be close but not nessesarily touching, two at the back on the base, two above on top, two in the centre on the base and two above on top, the front two on the base and two on top this pretty much guarantees the top and bottom will not easily seperate, I have not done it with a Tiger 1 as the Torro comes with a quick release but I did it with a Panzer 4, I fitted metal engine access doors at the back which entailed shortening the screw towers, I then fitted driver and radio operator hatches at the front and then bored out the screw towers behind those hatches and plugged the base with white putty then I put a pair of 3mm rods into the bored out towers to provide a way of alighning the two halves and with the front hatches open you can see the rods which allows you to get them lined up top to bottom and I fitted a pair of magnets to the front screw towers top and bottom, ( you will need to dremel them to get the right hight) there is an element of experiment to get it right so do not cut anything unless you are sure it's right, you say you cut the rear towers off, well you will need something their to locate the magnets so as long as you have a stump you can build it up with washers or similar to get the two magnets close, don't glue the washers on but use a self tapping screw long enough to reach through the magnets and the washers to the remains of the screw tower. look upon it as part of the fun of building your own unique Tank!!! good luck. shaun

Privet ALFA Pozhaluysta, ne volnuytes' I wept as I read your plea!!!! and so I decided against my better judgement to download a pictorial display of how to do it, ah alas whilst laying my hands upon my digital camera was easy I cannot find the USB cable, PLEASE ITS ALRIGHT!!! I have at great expence ordered a replacement cable, of course being an extraordinarily Christian country the UK has shut down for the Easter holiday so it could be next week before it arrives, still patience is a virtue. shaun

Thanks all for the great suggestions. As it turned out after literally weeks of thought (off and on I ended up using a magnet mount for the front hull. And perhaps all that thinking paid off as the result is simple, not too bulky (I did not want to block removal of the gearboxes later after all) and works fine. I glued two magnets to aluminum strip and glued and clamped that to the upper hull. For the lower just a thin strip of mild steel stock using gorilla glue and again clamped for an hour (probably should have left it alone at least 2-3 hours but impatience=my worst enemy here).
Pictures of It'll be in my next Marc780 build blog in the HL build section for anyone interested, that will be up in a day or two I think it will be entry 10...
The tanks looking pretty good I've done almost everything i wanted to do to it, except steel gearbox and new motor swap but waiting on the dang parts (new transmitter) as of now it's just a ridiculously overbuilt static model!

If you need it stronger (You will if you are running this thing) you might want to consider gluing magnet to the lower as well so it is magnet to magnet rather than magnet to steel.
