Re: Vantex Tiger-1
Good Evening,
I was all excited when I saw this and rushed to look at the Vantex Tiger 1. Earwig, You would be better off looking for a good, used Mark One version of the Tiger 1 and upgrading it to your heart's content. There is way too much wrong with this one ala' molded on parts and fenders, gun is way off, etc, the list looks lengthy. You would also be better served getting one of Vantex's later version Shermans and doing the same thing. I hear that they might be selling in the States soon for 1999.00. That leaves a lot of rooms for upgrades, the same with the used Mark One Tiger. Just my two cents worth and worth every nickle of that. ;o)
regards,
Painless

Re: Vantex Tiger-1
Hi,thanks for the reply....as it happens...i have recently been offered a Mk-1 Tiger....but..to be truthful....whilst the outside looks great...inside its a piece of junk....the springs for the suspension...were rusty, and very weak..,..the fibreglassing...is mediocre..and the lower hull had been strengthened with braces...as the guy told me, it was flexing....the 2 x motors that look ancient...are coupled to a gearbox that looks like its been built using 2nd hand parts...and the cogs in the cast alloy gearcase, had some teeth missing,...when i asked about this..the guy said..the later models have better motors with chain drive...but..what did i expect for £1800....i told him..something that worked and..did,nt look as if i,d be buying a money pit....now to this Vantex model....first and foremost....i,m not a purist,....all i want is something that looks nice, and works well....i have noticed some things that are innaccurate....like the front mudguards, don,t have the hinged side ,....but..i,m only wanting one for playing in the garden...not to show,...i saw one of those Field of Armour ones a few weeks ago on ebay...and it went cheap....with hindsight..i think i,d have been better off with that..than a Mk-1....i,ve got a friend who is at the Dortmund show this weekend...and he is going to get me some literature on the Vantex ....but in the meantime..i,ll keep my eyes on ebay

I watched a programme a few months back..entitled Tiger versus Sherman....and at the end of the programme..the interviewer asked a Sherman commander...."if you had a choice..which tank would you go for ...his answer...The Tiger....and you want me to go for a Sherman...i was at the tankfest at Bovington..last Saturday...and looking at the Sherman and Tiger..there is no comparison...in fact..looking at most of the German armour...there is no comparison...with the exception being the T34/85......

Buy what you like best! Some people love their shermans. They might think differently if they had to fight a tiger in one but thankfully that's not the case.
Re: Vantex Tiger-1
Over the past few days, i,ve been doing more looking at the Vantex models, have seen what can be done to them...and whilst i admit that the Tiger has some issues... .they are fixable...with..not too much money needed,...and compared to a basic MK-1 at over £3,400...i think they are good value for the money,..and have enquired about bringing one direct from China,..and..the cost including the import duty,..is below, what they are selling for in Germany ...and thats it delivered to my door,..complete and ready to run....all i,d have to do would be to charge up the batteries ,if i go electric..or put fuel in if i go for the 26cc engine....and having heard the Sherman on youtube....i,m leaning more towards the Petrol engined model of the Tiger........

Re: Vantex Tiger-1
Hi I suppose it depends on what the Vantex is made of ,if its plastic and has a hot engine inside I can see things starting to change shape very quickly then a fire. I would go with electric you can add a sound card and it sounds like a Tiger.
regards pete
P.S. I would buy a Sherman if I have the money LOL

Hi Pete,
The Tiger and the Sherman.have reinforced fibreglass hulls, the suspension,& road wheels, are metal, the track is made of aluminium alloy ...the 26cc engine is water cooled and there is a large cooling fan..as for the sound of the petrol engine....well. i was initially a bit sceptical...but on hearing the sound of the motor running on youtube...i have to say ..i was pleasantly surprised.....more than i can say when i heard the real Tiger running at Bovington last weekend...it was a disappointment....as was the Kingtiger 104...my friend has a MK-1 version of the 104 and he wanted to see the real one..but he found out that the one in the museum..was,nt all that it was cracked up to be...the zimmerit is,nt original....turns out it had been re-done using car body filler....here,s a link to youtube...

Re: Vantex Tiger-1
I'd say stick with electric.... when I first entered the hobby I scoured Youtube... found a few gas powered videos... I wasn't all that impressed with them...they were loud.. with complicated clutch systems...the clutch is the key with gas models... keeping them clean and free of oil will become a problem as the disks will slip...not very efficient with gas motors... which are more like two stroke motors... in a closed hull like that of an RC tank...everything inside the hull is contaminated...which will only cause future problems... even degradation of the fiberglass
It's the same with RC aircraft and boats...boats will accumulate sludge in the hull.. but can be isolated with bulkheads... in aircraft the problem is usually filling the gas tank... as that portion needs to be lined and cleaned often... motors in aircraft and boats are often exposed so any residual unburned and burned fuel is thrown away from the vehicle... the tank is totally contained
