What's wrong with this picture..seriously...

$50 Tiger tank 1/16...shipping included...Aliexpress



I don't know if i did some smart buying or am about to take it in the shorts...i was browsing on aliexpress and this in the photo is what i saw.

$50 shipped...from mainland china.

I examined the rest of the pictures of this ad of course but what ultimately does that prove? One picture shows a tiger with full metal tracks and obviously that's not what you're getting. it did show the transmitter battery etc. and the familiar HL box, and one picture showed the bottle of smoke oil (meaning s and s model) and the others didn't. It looks like you get at least the heng long non s and S tiger in 1/16 with battery and transmitter, and they even have a picture of someone holding it so you can see the size and that it is indeed a 1/16 tiger. I could not resist so i bought it. Even if it takes a month to get here, if as described (a mighty big if, i do not understand how they could sell at this price even if they have a warehouse full of them) it would be worth it.

I had been thinking of getting another HL KT, S and S because my present one is driving me bonkers with burned out board and sitting there dead, and waiting on the parts. But i saw this...decided to take my chances-$50 is chump change (again making me ever more suspicious)....

The aliexpress guaranty is you get item as described or money back. Or You get the item or money back. They even have a dispute process, of course, ive bought from them before and not been burned but there's always a first time isn't there...

I'm asking the experienced people, who have been dealing with such "too good to be true" online deals-what is your take on this deal? Did i just make a $50 mistake? Or is it likely ill get a $50 Tiger?
Opinions please!

If the deal goes through trouble free, besides the expected month long delay-will keep this updated. But i dont have a good feeling about it.

old chap ...the blue box gives it away ...its the early no smoke no sound A B C transmitter tiger one, don't spend your money on it, you will only end up spending more to bring it up to date , if I may suggest ,I take it one is from the colonies old chap ,you contact forgebear he is hear in good old blighty [uk] he will put you on the strait and narrow as will steve at welsh dragons models get in touch they will see you right decent chaps, they will send to the US .....wot wot ......

The 2nd pic when you scroll down..is also wrong..it shows the very early Tiger..where the mantlet is the wrong way round....range finder on the left when viewed from the front,..the old adage applies here.....if it looks to good to be true....then it usually is....

I'm with canned on this one Earwig... It does sound like you will get a Heng Long tank...but it will be the basic model not the S&S... not sure why you would want to jump on this one if you live in the states... as there are several on ebay that sell the basic model for about the same price... maybe ten dollars or so more
So it isn't really that great of a deal... personally I would check ebay Us... and you will find there are S&S Metal Tigers for under 150..with free or moderate shipping ...I know ...I've seen them..but most of those sellers don't mail to Hawaii where I am

Just an added note... the reason why I think this is the basic ...(not being able to access the original page)... is because of the 50% off sale price tag... which would mean the tank normally sells for about a 100 dollars...which is about right for the basic model

thanks for the answers guys. I already have the basic king tiger, that i got from hobbytron, before i knew the difference between the models. I thought ALL the heng longs came with smoke and sound, which of course they don't, but made no difference to me anyway as these were features i didnt need. The important different was the TK01 basic board (everything soldered) vs RX18 newer, better board (everything plugs in, somewhat more reliable and easier to change and cool).
If i get the basic tiger, at that price, i will be happy with it as the price is dirt cheap...I'm expecting some kind of email back saying "Oh you have additional charge!" "There is problem with delivery!" "Etc. Etc!" I have the King Tiger to fiddle with in the meantime, its just dead in the water at the moment because of a dead board-so if there's a long wait thats no problem..got several boards on the way, anyway, the KT is getting upgraded from the TK01 board to the 18. transmitter, board, receiver, harness on the way...(boy there sure is a lot of stuff to buy!) So if the tiger runs it'll probably just get upgraded too when the TK01 board dies..

My wife: "You're getting ANOTHER TANK!?!"
Me (slick talker): "It's a bargain i can always sell it on ebay!"

Will keep everyone thats interested, posted on this $50 tiger on how this deal goes. Still smells fishy to me but we'll see. It is possible that someone in china somewhere over-bought a boat load of these tanks, or really wants to undersell, so if i get the famous $50 shipped tiger and the whole thing goes smoothly will report back! if it goes successful i'm guessing there are a lot of you that would jump at a tiger $50 shipped, if its even legit! I'll be the guinea pig and take one for the team this time!

Marc I laughed like a flushing toilet when I read your wife's reaction to your recent purchase, you joined this madhouse on March 05 and I was pleased to welcome you to the Forum, I mentioned the impact this hobby would have on your pocketbook and the warm and loving relationship with your partner, How pleased I am to say I told you so, About ALIE EXPRESS, you have to remember they are a clearing house and you are paying them, but the actual supplier is another company altogether, I buy my Voyager photo-etch from ALIE EXPRESS but I take care to look at who the actual supplier is. My only beef with ALIE EXPRESS is the time it takes to ship my order but as I already knew it would take time I can hardly complain and whatever you buy it is always cheaper than elsewhere, but I think this really is a case of (stand by I want to impress ALPHA)CAVEAT EMPTOR/buyer beware. Good morning. I will hope for the best with you and your Tiger purchase. My first HL was one of these way back in the day when they came out. I have left it mostly stock and still have fun blazing it around the lawn at absurd tank speeds. I looked into upgrading it last year but the cost of replacing almost everything roughly equaled a new and modern version so it stands now as an example of how far Heng Long and the Hobby has come. I will follow this thread and see what you get and how you make it the tank you wanted.

In 5-7 days you will get a notification that it's been sent.
The tracking number will be wrong.
You'll query this of course but will receive silence in return.
Two days later aliexpress will be in touch to say
Your order has been frozen & that the seller is under investigation & has 3 days to
Show shipping receipts.
3 days later your money will be refunded.
Shame but true
