Want to save a whole Web page to .pdf? Fast easy way here!

Post by Marc780 »

For all the people here who have been so helpful to me as a new guy, here is a trick just about everyone will find useful. A site that converts Web page up to a .pdf file fast!

Why, because how many times have we seen a page such as a how-to or tutorial that we want to save to refer to later? I spent an hour here searching for a post someone made on installing brass tubing for a wheel bushing, and I don't want to search for that again! I converted the page and kept it for a reference. ( Now anyone can easily do it with this site listed below.)
One option of course, is to take a screen shot (alt and prtscrn keys) then paste into Paint and save. But that requires multiple images to get a page of any length longer then one photo, and the result is often blurry or otherwise unusable. This site is fast, and it's free. No login either! Here's what to do:

1. (Hopefully I'm not belaboring the obvious here but the keys listed are the American keyboard. I know the British keyboard is different but obviously "c" and "v" are the same.)

Save the url of the page you want. (Just mouse over and highlight it then hit "ctrl" hold down then hit "c" key (the "COPY" command - On a smart phone hold your finger on the url until the "copy" choice comes up.)

2. Go to your browser search page and type this

Pdfcrowd.com

3. Open that Web page. Now click on the field that says "address here" and hit "ctrl" then "v". (PASTE command) The url you want should appear in the field

4. Click the button beneath it that reads "convert to pdf"

5. Wait for it to finish converting and downloading, takes several seconds. If you click away from the site before that it may not complete.

6. In windows 7 you will see the box in the lower part of the screen that shows your page is now a complete downloaded .pdf file. You should be able to now find the new pdf in "downloads" folder and the name of it will be the entire url of the web page you just converted if you find you need to search for it. It might be in the "c:\windows\myDocuments\username\downloads" folder instead. On a smartphone your pdf should also be found in "downloads"

7. Naturally when you click your page then Adobe reader should auto open it. If you don't have Adobe you need to install that to look at your page if you don't already have it for some reason.

Marc this is fantastic!

I was only trying to do this recently - in case the server goes down or a meteorite hits...

Thanks for the tip.

You can also go into file, save and save the whole page complete with links, pics etc, so that you can open it offline, though I just save any interesting pages into my favourites and keep them all in various folders so that I can go back to them. If you click on Properties you can change the name of url to something that is plain English so that it is easy to identify.
