Fish tanks first build M26 Pershing

Post by Fishtank »

]So new to the platoon of tanks i hope to accumalate and document is my second tank The M26 Pershing.
Now a bit strange that i start with my second tank as this is my first attampt at photo dodcumenting its progress, But all for good reason.
Mainly that being the Walker bulldog was more or a work horse and got too freindly with a deep muddy puddle and the waterproofing wasnt quite waterproof enough and ended its electronics life prematurely.

So first off as you might notice the pershing comes out very BASIC looking and a very flat green.

Now the idea for me was to get the tank to look a little more realistic and capable of surviving on the battelfield rather than be suitable only for a childs shelf.
And so it begins
And so it begins

I started with adding some extra parts you get with the tank such as the commander who currently in this photo resembles the incredible hulk as i hadnt finished painting him also painting each individual bolt on the road wheels and other parts of the whole hull.
added to this the rear metal sprocket was changed to a metal drive as the plastic ones tend to snap when under strain.

Next to be changed were the engine grille covers and the netting for the crates on the back also the tow cable is actually from a bike brake cable.
I also changed the internal smoke generator which i havent got a picture of to a supersmoker 2 which works with the motor speed and can recommend these if you want a realistic smoke ploom when moving off.

The next one is its first outing

The eagle eyed of you may have noticed that its also had the metal tracks added which i think are a must to add that feeling of extra weight and also tends to improve grip on loose surfaces. These can take a little time to bed in so expect some clicking and road wheel jumps from time to time.
On top of the tank now sits a commander and not the incredible hulk now i managed to get round to painting his face ( still not finished) in addition to the metal tracks were a set of metal black steel gears---- the Zinc variety tend to get munched too easily in my opinion.

After its first succesfull mission i tried to improve on the details of the armour which is ongoing but also an improvement

Now we come to where the build currently stands
I have added more detail to the armour and added fading and a bit of weathering and mud splatters.
This is so much fun to do unless your wife finds you attempting to do this on the lounge table :lolno:

So far this little bad boy has been running without any major problems and as BASE its a good starting point to get into the hobby.
Its RELIABLE and durable and most of all alot of fun.
Well thats my first build up to where it sits now. I will keep changing things im sure and will no doubt post more details when that time comes. But for now i hope you enjoy this little project and if you have any questions then feel free to ask.
all the best

Fishtank,
I have one of these from almost a decade ago and can testify to it's durability. Last year, I had to finally replace the original nylon gears and went with a metal set along with new sprockets and a new set of tracks. I have done minor detailing over the years, just recently adding a handset to the phone box on the rear hull. I have come to love Olive Drab in all of it's complexity and this tank will get a complete paint job this year to replace the stock medium green. You would have been hard pressed to find a better tank to get into the Hobby with. Yours looks spot on with all of the detailing and weathering. Great Job!
regards,
Painless

I enjoyed working my Pershing as well. I haven't quite run it enough to break in the metal tracks. Your looks great and aged just right.

Hi palepainter,

it can take a little time to run them in but i recommend getting a good set of metal gears if you havent already and a set of gear box motor shaft supports. After alot of running the stock ones can start to sag under the added weight.
So far the only tank i have that doesnt need regular maintainance

:haha: :haha: Greetings fishtank... you know... I get a lot of response to this Pershing ... as you might guess I'm not your run of the mill RC Tanker :haha: I don't do Historical ... but model my tanks after a Japanese Anime..GIRLS UND PANZER
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZeYLUN_wSMY
The pink tank is supposed to be a M3 Lee...but I have no interest in scratch building one of those lol
It's what revitalized my interest in tanks...I have a thread that has my collection and some clips from the anime..titled HAZARDOUS MATERIAL :D ...since I can't get several of the models in 1/16 ... early on ... I did adaptations...shocking ...perhaps putrid to some... but for me... pure Joy ;)

Good to meet you fishtank... enjoy the adventure..
