Tamiya Panther G gun elevation

Hi guys, I have a Panther G, and the gears in the gun elevation gearbox have stripped, to be exact the top white gear, and the black gear that's in 2parts, anyone know where I could buy these items, or maybe even some better gears, only used the gun once to test the connections, and the gears fell to pieces, thanks for any help you could offer.

I hope you get it sorted soon.
I tested the electronics for my King Tiger build today and I have to say that the elevation unit is a bit naff, watching it operate, the gears are all a bit wobbly.
If you do find a better replacement, please let me know.

Just a suggestion (I have no experience with tamiya) but is it possible to replace the standard mechanism with a servo operated elevation and take a y lead feed to the MFU if a sound effect is available on the tamiya mfu?

Well, on the 2nd gun elevation gearbox, bought from Axels (great service by the way) and the gears in this one have stripped as well, what a pos, going to look into using a servo for the gun, unless anyone knows of anywhere to buy brass gears to replace the plastic ones in the gearbox, I will let you know how I get on.

Hi sorry to hear about your troubles with the gearbox.
with the Gun elevation disconnected does the gun travel freely up and down by hand?

Hi Keith, yep, smooth as a very smooth thing, I think it's the amount of play the gears have in the gearbox that's the majority of the problem, I have found a plastic gear from an old servo, and with a bit of shimming to stop the gears wobbling it does seem to be better, still the occasional click, but for the money these kits cost, brass gears really should be fitted especially with the aluminium barrel, plastic gears are just not strong enough methinks, would it really kill Tamiya to fit brass gears?.

Tamiya elevation units are fundamentally flawed! So much for Japanese engineering!! Funnily enough I have been working on my Sherman elevation unit today! The lifting arm had split.... bound to happen when you have plastic arm on a metal shaft! Rigged up some reinforcement using some filing, a washer and lots of glue. Not convinced it will hold. A cheaper brass replacement to the Schumo is available here.....
