I am from the USA, I Had a background of building hundreds of tank models as a teen and fond memories of that. Some formal school training in drawing and more importantly air brushing, my favorite method of finishing armor. Also dabbled in plenty of aircraft (my all time fave was a 1/24 stuka done in winter white squiggle camo) and at one point, the 1/32 Lindbergh r/c pt boat that I built in 1979 (and that was too heavy ti be fast due to the batteries of the time... took it out to sail it in a harbor once and almost lost it to Poseidon for good when the signal went haywire and it took off on its own!)
Have been in and out of the hobby for 40 years and now thinking seriously of getting one of the 1/16 HL TANKS or maybe even a Tamiya (soon as I hit the lottery that is)
I am very impressed at the time, skill, and workmanship genius shown by many of you tank builders here and if I make a tank even half as good I will feel I've learned a bit. Mostly here to admire the craftsmanship and the build stories and to get ideas. And this is a very interesting site, decided to stop lurking and join the site as I'm sure I'll have a question or two sometime soon.

Hi Marc, Welcome to the forum, I am sure that many suggestions as to what you should buy will be forthcoming from many members of the forum, I would suggest you start with a Heng Long Tank, it does not matter which one, they are reasonably priced and the quality of today's product is head and shoulders above what went before and the upgrades available will keep you busy for a very long time. the sky is the limit as to what you can achieve, actually what I really mean is the size of your pocket book, the good nature of your bank manager and the tolerance of your partner, enjoy this hobby but do beware it does tend to swallow up your life. shaun
I think I am about to upset someone

Welcome Marc. Full time airbrusher here as well. The airbrush certainly is a great tool to use on these. I look forward to seeing some of your creations.

Good Morning,
Welcome to the Forum. As you noted, a lot of knowledgeable sorts here with a collected library of information on how to do scale armor. Please add yours to the mix. Post pics of your builds so that we can walk around and kick the virtual road wheels. ;o)
