Enjoying the "Russian winter" we are having here this yr.

Pretty much a WWII aircraft guy - plastics and RC scale stuff - but have also done a number of armor models, mostly WWII German and US. After going to the various tank museums in Europe on motorcycle trips - LaGleize, Bastogne, Diekirch as well as visiting Aberdeen over here a few times, I felt it was time to get serious with a large scale working model. So I recently bought an 1/16 scale IMEX King Tiger since it is my favorite tank, but I like them all. I am also somewhat of a student of WWII and spent alot of time in the Ardennes on a few self directed tours with another armor / Battle of the Bulge lunatic. Was even there once in the winter which really gives you the feeling of what the combatants must have gone through just dealing with the weather. Looking into getting active a few armor meets but don't really know much at this point.

My four rescued pugs however don't share my enthusiasm for the new tank. Professionally, I am a mechanically inclined finance guy who likes airplanes, cars and motorcycles and who knows how to true up a four jaw chuck. I design my own scale flying models in CAD and have competed successfully in a number of RC scale contests. Been a modeler for over 50 yrs...

Welcome to the Forum, Rob. Sounds like you know your stuff. ;o) Hopefully, the vast pool of knowledge and knowledgeable sorts here will still prove useful. Pictures of your build, please when you get a moment. We like to walk around and kick the virtual road wheels while we chat.

seeing as one is from the colonies old chap ,your first and formost tank is the Sherman so I suggest this is your next tank to do, a fisher/body m4a3,75 and when done you send to me post haste ,wot wot

Welcome Rob, and greetings from the Great White North! I am just west of Toronto about 3 hours north of Buffalo and I agree, it has been a Russian winter! Our lovely daytime high today -18C which is 0 degrees F and tonight we look forward to a balmy -29C with a windchill -35C! Not to mention the 6 feet of snow we have! Global Warming???
When it is like this I too think about the boys during the winter of black 44 or think about those German troops in front of Moscow when the weather broke in 41 with all their winter gear in station in Warsaw. No wonder the medal they got for that advance was nicknamed by the troops The Order of The Frozen Meat!

But we do have to feel for the old country this year with the flooding they have had! I will take all the snow over wet cold rain any day...

With all your experience I really look forward to seeing your build. And when the snow melts in June or July feel free to come visit us at CanAm Tank Club if you are in the area...

Rob welcome to the Forum, with help available from the mountains of Colorado to the snow fields of Toronto and the odd comment from over here and of course Herman Bix in the Antipodes I think any problems will soon disappear, ( forgive me I must stop drinking this stuff) oh and DGS what is the matter with you, a few fluffy flakes of snow and moan moan moan, you alluded to the rain in the old country, RAIN, dear boy it has been so bad here where I live that I actually had to walk around a puddle last week and the temperature has even dropped below 10c/50f, you have been spoiled whereas us with the pioneering spirit just soldier on. . shaun

Thank you all for the kind comments. Wanted to post a few of my armor models but it looks like I can only do one at a time. Will take a few of my 1/16 IMEX King Tiger but I still have to finish assembling it and dressing it up. FYI this model was already assembled and ready, I just have to add some details....
