1/7 Riva aquarama (4ft long!)

Post by tomhugill »

To me this is the daddy, since I've been dabbling in boats I've wanted a nice wooden speedboat, ideally a Riva but I considered Chris crafts and other models. The problem is there's only one kit, the Amati 1/10 aquarama which is rare and expensive. However I was looking at another boat on eBay and the fella said he had something I might like better, he was very right:

Now she looks lovely as is but is missing some key fittings to make her really stand out. To this end I'll be buying a fitting kit from a Vietnamese company who build Rivas in this scale and making some better seats.

Heres the fitting set:

In addition I'll be converting her over to brushless power with a pair of 3674 inrunners, twin 120A water cooled esc's and will run her on 2x 8000mah 4s lipos.

wow shes a nice one mate. What you could do if you want a cheaper build is to build from scratch now with somthing like this that may sound like a tall order but look at this
http://www.svensons.com/boat/
this is a site with free compehasive planes for real boats inculing similer styles to this. If you look at the mini max i built a realy one years ago but there is no reason you coudnt scale down best of luck
scratch building is more fun

Now this boat I like.... almost made one back in the day...I really like the wooden finish... reminds me of the boat used in "On Golden Pond"

Something very nostalgic about wood...

Sadly this project has had to be canned. The fella got the dimensions wrong and its actually much much bigger than I thought, more like 5 foot long and a foot wide!

Do you have a link to that Vietnamese company? Those fittings look wonderful.
