Panther G Road Wheel Colours?

Does anyone have any confirmation that some late war Panther G's had road wheels of different colours?

I am referring to suggestions that tanks with, say, predominantly green wheels might have had one or tow yellow or brown per side, at random dispersion.

I have seen numerous drawings depicting this and some historic photos that make me wonder; also could be dirt in those old B&W's.

IMO ... It's really up to you Glen...I've seen them done both ways...from what I recall from my static model building years long ago... tank crews in the field were sometimes ill supplied... reason for some odd paint schemes on tanks... as they went with what they had on hand ...so it just depends on the front you are modelling

Hi ALPHA, GLEN, The only time you could depend on a camo scheme matching a particular pattern was if a Tank had just had major work done on it at a repair and maintainance workshop, after that it depended on what the crew had been issued or could beg, borrow or steal and as the war advanced there was a lot of imagination used, so if you are building a late model German army Tank you can within reason do what you like. shaun

I agree Shaun... timing... timing was such a player in the war ...early on... supplies were plentiful ... toward the end when the fronts expanded... supplies weren't that available ...reason at times you see some really odd paint schemes on tanks... they weren't wrong or incorrect... they just did what they could with what they had

I am amazed three members of the Forum all agreeing! But seriously if you are in command of a Tank in early 1945 and you are given the choice of 20 litres of Dunkelgelb or 20 litres of engine oil it would not be the hardest decision you had ever made. and if whilst foraging your driver had found 6 fully servicable wheels just lying about would you be bothered about their colour? ....Well the way I would see it... if that offer came up... as the commander I would shoot the guy in the foot... take both the paint and the oil... then tell him if he says anything I'll shoot him in his other foot ...and the wheels... well I'd pat the guy on the shoulder and say ... job well done.... now load them up
