taigen 2.4 curcuit board and gun flash?

Post by spinwell.123 »

Just fitted a taigen 2.4 circuit board and asiatam gun flash unit to standard heng long recoil unit, Asiatam don't seem to make one. The gun flash is very intermittern if at all. Copied the wiring from my nephew's Tiger only difference is he has the asiatam turret and recoil unit. Not quite up to speed with electronics. Any advice

Hi,

Any chance of a pic to be able to see how it is connected?

It needs a few seconds to charge up the capacitors to full energy to flash bulb. If you mean it flashes sometimes and not others chances are it be a loose wire or bad connection.

I got to admit the flash units I bought a few years back (came in a box) are still working but recently ones I've had haven't lasted long at all, flash bulb and electronics just failing.

Did you try to fire the gun continuously ? Taigen/HL will let you keep firing but the high intensity flash like Ian says will need time to recharge so maybe that is why it is sporadic ? Basically you have to treat it like a real cannon.........

If it works sometimes and not others then this might be the case. Shouldn't be the wiring.

I've fired the gun and nothing happened or it might, then waited 5 secs or so fired again it might flash. Repeated this after driving around sometimes it flashes sometimes it won't. Work fine with RX18 board. Even tried swapping the circuit board with my nephew's it still does it. Think maybe a new flash unit?

Lee,

If you have an extra HI unit lying around that would be the easiest. Just unplug the old one and plug in the new one to see before you start ripping out everything. Also, if you are brave you can also remove the heat shrink wrap on the HI unit and just swap the unit by unsoldering the LED. That will save you having to take everything apart to get the LED out from the barrel etc. There is only three wires to the LED and I do it all the time.

Hi I've tried my RX18 board and it works fine just when I plug my taigen board or my nephews board its all very erratic. Yet it works great in my nephews tank. Like I said only difference is he has the asiatam recoil unit in his Tiger but I don't think there's one of them for the Panther ausf G

Forgot to mention that the gun will still fire but even that annoying track recoil doesn't work unless the gun flash happens

Lee, if the gun still fires (sound) but there is no track recoil or the high intensity flash then maybe you need to switch the wires of the trigger. I know that the pin layout of the Taigen MFU is not identical to the RX-18s. I have to remember exactly which one it was but I believe the CN3 plug pin 4/5 is switched between the Taigen MFU and the RX-18. I don't want you to burn anything so please beware.

I have to look at the postings and find it.

Found it......

Lots of mumbo jumbo but the bottomline is that Taigen's trigger pins are switched from RX-18s (pin 4/5 on CN3) so that MIGHT be your issue........ Still dones't explain why it is sporadic though. It should either work or not work but not intermittent.
