Folks,
Firstly - A Happy 2014 to you all.
Secondly - My apologies for not thanking everyone for their input sooner.
Thirdly - I experienced a weak moment on ebay this weekend and bought a pre-owned HL Panther G.
This one is the very basic model, with plastic everything and no smoke or sound, but does have a fancy cammo paint job.
The same vendor did also have a HL panther G pro version with metal tracks, sprockets/idlers/gearboxs etc but I was outbid for that one!
Upon getting the Panther home, I tried to fire it up to check it for correct operation but it was DOA out of the box.
After changing the batteries in the Tx and swapping out the tank battery for one from my Tiger, it still wouldn't go, so off with the lid!
Upon lifting the lid, I found the +ve battery lead had become detached from the tank's main on/off switch, so a quick dab with the soldering iron and away she went.
Now for sourcing some upgrade bits!
I'll start a new thread for that - HL part numbers are another world!

Hi,
Don't know if you would be interested but there is a new metal lower hull and metal road wheels just released for the Pather G.
Tankbear has them:
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Rctankde-Taig ... 2586c9c14d
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Taigen-Jagdpa ... 58a9e0682a
A bit pricey, but well worth it in my opinion, And Dave (Forgebear) offers service which is second to non.

I had so many of the same questions when I got my first HL tank. I would say experiment a little with it, you'll find that HL is cheap and cheerful, you'll have to make up for the deficiencies in both quality and accuracy but they run fine. I've had white metal gears run fine in my Panther but strip in my Tiger, later to replace them with black steel gears but then need to replace the motors on them due to excessive weight (my HL tiger is no longer really HL as most components are now metal).
Ultimately when it comes to diminishing returns is the basic plastic hull/superstructure and problems with that you'll have to contend with. If you have a dremel, filler, plastic card and alittle money to spend on after market parts you can make good most problems. Whatever you do, don't rush it. I generally lurk on these forums and pick up tons of good advice, maybe not lurk but learn from some of the guys here, both from successes and mistakes.

I've had such a mixed experience with these guys, I'm not sure whether to trust them or not these days. But I've always had a good experience with Welshdragon.jarndice wrote:WHJ, I echo everything scalawag says, I must tell you about Tankzone, If you do deal with him he may well treat you properly to begin with but you have my promise he will let you down,
