flame thrower 105 sherman

but the thing is its not going on the cast hull but the hl all I was thinking of was doing a flame thrower turret all I know is that the 105 barrel was modded to suit but have only seen the one pic but cant find it any more it was this pic that gave me the idea as it seemed not a lot needed to be modded, yes they were in the pacific used by the marine corps, as they used the easy 8 type thrower in korea. thinking it s easy to change a turret and you have a fresh tank so to speak ......but?

Hey... if I can find them so can you.. so you better not give up Canned ... it will be one of the more challenging builds for you .. but it does exist

they were there... they had to be... because there had to have had used several of the SHERMAN variants....just to see which worked and which didn't

Canned, I don't know a lot about Sherman flame tanks, but am also interested in them, and will try and help a little bit. There are good photos and drawings of them in the book "Tank Warfare on Iwo Jima." I can't remember if they were M4A3's or M4A2's, or both, but I do know they were all the 75mm version. (I don't have it with me right now, but I'll check it tomorrow and get back to you). There are a couple of message threads on Missing Lynx about them, which suggest that several Sherman flame tanks were built for the projected invasion of Japan, and that they were built on both 75mm and 105mm turrets, and were probably mostly VVSS suspensions. That invasion didn't happen, but the ones used in Korea were all the 105mm version, and all of them had HVSS suspension.

If you haven't seen them before, there is a French modeler who has built three different working ones. Link to one on You Tube is here, and go through his different videos to see the others. -Mike

NO FIRE? SHUCKS . .....One more option should not sassgrunt get back to you is.... find a cheap FoV upper...if it has the turret even better as you wouldn't have to mod the HENG LONG's

I wouldn't go for a new one ....just because it's kind of waste to chop it up...with that said... the metal upper would make a good tank that could withstand heat... so the possibility of shooting some flames becomes more viable

Canned, I checked the "Tank Warfare on Iwo Jima" book. For flame tanks, it shows a drawing of an M4A2 with the flamethrower mounted in place of the hull machine gun. All the other drawings and photos are of M4A3 tanks that were equipped with a "modified Mark I flamethrower to operate from within the Sherman's turret, replacing the 75mm main gun with a look-alike launch tube." Eight were converted in total, with four going to each of the 4th and 5th Tank Battalions. These are high-bustle turrets, like what comes on the Heng Long Sherman, but 75mm and with no rear ventilator, (that only came on the 105mm). These 4th and 5th Battalion tanks are the ones that you see with added wooden/concrete armor and camouflage paint schemes. -Mike

Now that sounds promising...see Canned... You can do it! ... without much mod the the Heng Long to boot
