Good Morning,
Frynsdad, you embody the mantra most definitely. ;o) One of the base reasons that I am poring over your Sherman builds along with Phil and CH's as I work on mine. Quick question? Do you think that the detail features such as bolts and so forth on our tanks are Ok as is or should be oversized a tad to pop out when viewed? A good example of what I am talking about is the Mato M4A1.

Thank you for commiserating with me on hand and finger issues. I probably grump more about it during the cold, dry Winter when it seems to pop up with more regularity. Before I forget, 3 day sale at MatoMart. Up to 50% off and free shipping over 200.00 US. I pored over their site again but ran into the same issues as last time. Not much Sherman material for the M4A3 outside of things that I already have and while good deals existed, to purchase any other of their tanks would throw me off schedule for my KV-2. Have to say tho', the HL 'Pro' versions are getting right up there with Taigen's offerings.

Greetings Sir...I hope the Holiday went well for you...and what a beautiful example of fabrication and paint...that TIGER is really something to take in... I can't help being drawn into it... perhaps it's that angelic figure that rides upon the turret ...one day I will definitely have to give that a try

You have a keen eye for those details... the frame work on your vent screens look better than the single dimension photo etched ...something I will also have to try as the man with the red coat supplied me with a Panther G ...I can only hope they turn out close to the quality of yours

I can't help but feel what you are going through Painless... you didn't even add in the cut and drilling you did to your hands...I know people who would just sit back and nurse such injuries... most are new schoolers.. who never learned the merit of pushing forward grin and bear it train of thought... they don't realize it's their body sending them messages... and by pushing beyond... it will heal and in most cases become more resilient and stronger
Age is a factor though... metabolisms slow...healing takes a little longer...I remember when my Tunnel Carpel Syndrome (TCS) would act up... there was a time where a little hot / cold shock type of therapy would rid me of the symtoms almost immediately...now it can last for a couple of weeks

Arthritis is something else though... I can only applaud you how you've extended yourself past the discomfort

A good question, it's always a comprimise between scale accuracy and praticality. I've seen some beautiful "scale" vehicles with minute etched details which look stunning on the shelf but are just too delicate to actually run, where-as overscale details, such as the lightguards/lifting hooks on the Mato Sherman just make it look toy-like. I suppose it's up to the builder as to how far and how to scale to take the detailing.

...Yes... I can only agree... you just have to know when to stop..one reason those shackles were a dilemma..as they are in a location that can snag on grass and other debri

Thanks for the quick reply, Frynsdad. ;o) I agree on the Mato. One of the very few things I did to it was lightly file the undersides of the hull fittings and accessories. They still look new just not as thick. I will go ahead and keep things as scale as possible on the M4A3 but not as intricate as on the Panther G build I did back in October\November.... Thank you again, Alpha. ;o) Yes, MatoMart can be bedeviling when they wish. They have the capability to carry many more items for their tanks but do not for some byzantine reason.

26th Day: Made some progress tonight on the upper hull. First off I got out the bow .30 cal from Tamiya and tried a test fitment. The hole in the HL ball mount was a tad small but a 3/32 bit gently rotated by hand opened the mount up back to the LED. A test fitment of barrel and shroud looks really good. I will need to visit the local Home Despot for a length of fibre optic to insert to bring the flash to the muzzle of the gun as it is quite long. Next I used a #61 bit in the yankee drill and eyeballed mounting holes for a couple of plastic Pershing hatch handles I had found in Spares. After that was complete, I finished up the night by mounting a couple of Schumo periscope guards on the front hatches over the molded periscopes. (Note that the HL Pershing hatch handles and the Pershing periscope covers by Schumo fit the Sherman hatches exactly. I suspect many of the add-on parts for these two tanks are the same but check to make sure) Pictures:

Painless, your Sherman is looking excellent! I don't know if I saw anyone make the hatch handles for the front hatches before - if I did, I don't recall it. Really nice!

The box got to me today, and I delivered Alpha's stuff to him (without 'liberating' some of it for myself, I'll have you know). Ha. Thank you again. -Mike
