battery packs

just received my wsn t34 today. the tank itself takes 8 batteries. has anyone used any made up battery packs in this tank model ? thanks

I am having strange memories here as it was a long time ago, but does the WSN battery pack take a power supply from midway down the pack, to supply the 5 or 6v required by some circuits? I know it worked that way on one tank that I dismantled, but I can't remember which one?

Nope it just has full 8 batteries in series. There is also a mini tamiya socket to plug in a battery pack for it. Only problem is the odd shape of the compartment makes it difficult to find a battery to fit unless you bought from WSN.

I just ran mine on 8 duracell rechargeable batteries (2650mAh) and easily got over an hour run time.

thanks for that. not had it apart yet . just wondered if there would be room inside for a pack if i removed the battery box.

One of mine I fitted one of these shaped batteries in the tank by cutting the top half of the battery box off.

Just to add my 2 pennies worth.....I tried the 9.6 Volt battery pack idea on a Panzer III and although it was a quicker tank, rather unfortunately it blew the sound unit ...so now it is a VERY quiet Panzer III and I took it back to 7.2 volts just in case I damaged the rest of the RX18.

OOO Good to know... I was going to up my KV .because she sucks so much juice... what's interesting is .. my 1/24 LEOPARD runs off a 9.6...guess I'll just go LIPO

You must of been unlucky to damage your RX18 as myself and others have had no issues.

Back to the WSN T34 it is designed to run at 12v (8x 1.5v AA batteries), but still works with rechargeable ones at 9.6v. If you use a 7.2v battery pack I'm not certain if the electronics will work at such a low voltage. I know people who have converted the tanks to use RX18 and 7.2v battery pack and it works but the motors are slow as under powered.

I think that I must have been really unlucky.....It cannot have been the 'heat' because I was running the Panzer III in the crushed snow on the driveway at the time....under the outside light because it was nearly midnight and I was freezing my 'brass monkeys off'

Not sure if this is wholly applicable, but if you run at a lower than recommended operating voltage, you'll end up taking more current, which will create more heat for the electronic components.
