Buldging LEDs

Post by ALPHA »

Greetings Gentlemen...

I'm sure everyone has and probably found solutions for the "Battle of the Bulging LEDs " :haha:

Image

no matter how you try to hide those factory installed "eyes" they are always there ...
in certain circumstances ... here's an inexpensive solution

SUPER GLUE ...(Permatex)
Image
Yes SUPER GLUE... that wonderful little tube of finger bonding liquid ..specifically Permatex Super Glue... because of creative marketing have included the perfect shade for Bulging LEDs....Just remove the black ring between the tube and the white applicator.. they are perfect for almost every application...especially the HL PANZER IIIs....and if you have one of the new HL T34s .... the same can be done to the larger light using cuttings from a JAGD PANTHER's exhast or from the pod on the side :D

Way back when I first started with this foolishness the advise was to grind the lens flat, something I never did, instead I did what all sensible people do, I went to Steve at Welsh Dragon for a proper fix. shaun
I think I am about to upset someone :haha:

This mod is for people like me ... who can't wait for parts to arrive lol...but really ... in the case of the PANZER III series... they actually make the tank look better... and in some cases very close to the real tank... I'll be posting pics of my Stug soon... the other Panzer III I posted doesn't have the mod... I didn't know about it till recently how good they look...I'm not sure if I would do it on my tiger... but they do make the smaller tanks a lot nicer... best thing about it is... if you have the glue ...which I buy a lot of... the part is readily available...and cheaper than cheap :D

Hey Ray... I agree... after my STUG...I also like the recoil better than the bb gun...but that's not the LED I'm referring to... the ones I use shades over are the headlight buckets...as I don't care for the idea of shaving down the LEDs

once you have a "bucket" receptacle ... if you really want something special you can insert what we used to use in model railroading...
an MV LENS

Image
These things are really cool.... they are like cabochons ...which you can use as well.. just make sure they aren't faceted
Image

they come in different sizes and colors... the thing that makes them cool is... when you drill a hole in the back of them the lens becomes a reflector..similar to what is seen in a flashlight...and will actually make the beam of light brighter...a really good thing to stock up on if you are really serious about your models

I haven't installed any in my tanks... as I forgot what they were called till now :haha:

But at least I have the "Buckets" to receive them :D

Hi Ray... yeah I've seen those white metal jobs... they're nice... problem is they only make them for specific applications... also some need to be drilled in order to put an LED in them...otherwise you have to slide some fiber optics into them....the MVs are universal..and can fit any application... even tail light fixtures...the reflective qualities are really something to experience ...and if you like how they used to shade the lenses in WWII....you can always do it with some aluminum tape painted over :D

Sure up close and personal they may not look as authentic as the white metal castings... but for me... since there aren't that many model competitions here... it really doesn't matter... because if anyone got that close to my tank... I'd give fare warning to back off :haha:
