USPS
Forgive me in advance for what is going to be a full blooded moan, When Tomhugill was doing the build on his Tiger 1 ( Great job by the way old friend)he used up all of Steve's stock of Butterfly nuts. I put in my order but in the meanwhile went on line for 1mm butterfly/wing nuts, There was just one company in the known world selling them, it is in Santa Cruz California, USA. I put in an order for six as it was all they had.they confirmed my order by return, only two days later they came back to me apologising that they did not have them after all, then last Monday out of the blue they e-mailed me saying they were back in stock and did I still want them, I said yes please they said $1.56 =$6 post and packing. Today another e-mail from California, a different member of the company telling me that they needed $82.66 for insurance cover!!!!! I e-mailed them telling them that this morning I had received from Hong Kong a parcel marked GIFT which contained two large tools from Tamiya, it had taken 8 days since I had ordered them and no excess postal charges, the reply was pretty much take it or leave it. 6 x 1mm butterfly nuts are less than 5/8 of an inch in total! what was wrong with putting them in an envelope? anyway in the meantime Steve has yet again come up trumps. I have cancelled my order from California and am left wondering why the United States Postal Service is being used to repair the stricken economy of the United States all by itself, The rest of the world has no idea how lucky it is to not have such exorbitant postal charges, ALPHA I am beginning to understand your unhappiness with such a system, I now await Painless telling me he is the postmaster for his city and how dare I, I love America and I have never forgotten the sacrifice that was made by too many brave young men from that land in 1940/1945 to help us against the terror of those grim days but this is getting your own back in a very underhand manner.Goodnight all I am off for a very strong drink! shaun
I think I am about to upset someone

Re: USPS
They probably would have added all the postage and insurance costs to the value of the items in the declaration as well, making you liable for import duties too!!!!! Had that problem from the states more recently!! It seems to have got out of hand.

Well dang nammit shaun,, I can feel your frustration....really though.... I would blame the USPS... it's the company you are dealing with...the know they aren't going to make all that much from your purchase... so are trying to tack on extra charges ...if I were in CALI .. I would pick them up for you and send them out... it would be the same as your package from Hong Kong ...If you know anyone.. on the continent .... have them buy them for you and send them..that way you avoid the extra charge
The USPS actually does a good job (excluding my postal person )..It's usually the sellers who are the problem...try checking ebay US....there are so many sellers that exclude Hawaii and Alaska some to the point where they won't send an item at all no matter the size
Jeez for a hundred dollars I could buy the resins ... make a mold out of rtv and cast my own
Really though... it isn't the USPS ...they're regulated.... it's that company that is trying to rip you off ...a stroke of their pen... and your less than 10.00 package has a value of 150.00 dollars...and that's the reason for the added fees
