Just bought one of these from Steve at Welsh Dragon.

For those unfamiliar with this package here is the blurb:

Taigen 2.4 GHz digital control package for Taigen and Heng Long tanks.

** Multi frequency digital control! **

** No more crystals! **

** No more tank aerial! **

** Combined control unit/receiver! **

** Built in fan! **

** Improved operation! **

** Longer range! **

** Louder speaker! **

** For use with infrared and BB firing tanks! **

A three part set comprising digital transmitter, receiver/control unit and speaker.

The receiver/control unit replaces the RX18 main board and receiver board in Heng Long and Taigen tanks, and features include a built in fan. Tanks fitted with this system no longer require an aerial.

The transmitter frequency has been factory set to work with the receiver. A simple process allows users to bind the transmitter to other Taigen receivers which may have a different frequency. No crystals are required!

(Please note that although the instruction manual advises the binding process takes 5 minutes in reality we have found that it only takes a few seconds).

The speaker is an improvement on the standard Heng Long speaker with higher output. Specifications are output 3W (Heng Long speaker is only 0.5W), frequency 150Hz-15KHz, size 5.8cm x 5.8cm. (Speaker is also available for purchase separately).

In fact it doesn't come with any instructions, although on Steve's site he has a photo with various arrows and labels. I did find a reference on a previous post to an instruction manual being downloadable from his site but it's not there any more.

I have had a look for past postings on this site but couldn't find a definitive answer to the installation but perhaps I'm over-complicating things.

So my questions are:

Is it really just a case of replacing the RX18 board (and speaker) and plugging in everything to the new unit? I'm hoping that the bit about the 'binding process' is unnecessary.

I'm currently running a Taigen flash/recoil unit and the original HL smoker - but not the Infra Red battle system. Is this a problem?

Do I keep the circuit board which comes linked to my current RX18 unit?

Is there anything else I need to know?

Thanks in advance guys. As I have always said electronics are my weak spot here.

Yes it is a simple unplug RX18 and plug wires into the Taigen unit. I think only difference is the Taigen has a separate socket for tail lights, but since your HL tank if it has tail lights are wired into the headlights that shouldn’t be a problem.

No the FM receiver linked to the RX18 by the 3 core wire is no longer required.

If you bought the Taigen unit and receiver as a pair it should be pre paired.

Ian is correct but just want to add one more thing. The additional plug is actually for a reverse light, not a tail light. All HL tanks that has a tail light runs it off the front headlight connection. The Taigen reverse light is in fact a new function not available on RX-18 and is only activated when you go full reverse. Also, the plug for this is the micro JSP I think, one smaller than the rest of the plugs on the MFU.

The pairing function is very simple. Power up the tank, turn the MG switch to on on the radio and power up the radio. It should then bind in 5 seconds. You only do this once per radio/tank. The only caveat is that in a noisy environment (like a tank meet) I have had problem binding, so I just make sure I bind before the meet.

Good evening, guys!
I bought Panzer III with RX18 and installed anti recoil unit (seems that it could be Welsh Dragon made unit) and I don't know where to connect the green wire...
I'm sure that You, tankers, could help me to resolve this problem! :S

EddyK,

Can you post a picture of the anti recoil unit ? There are different ones out there. Also, if you are just swapping out and RX-18 and putting in a Taigen 2.4Ghz they are pin compatible so you just plug it into the same spot as you did on the RX-18 and it should work........

Thanks for reply, Michael!
The wire was soldered in to the RX18 just like that:

And I couldn't find any info in this forum and by Google, too... :(
I'll post the picture of the unit in this evening.
