After a long exchange of e-mails with Nitrotek they eventually apologised, 'for the misunderstanding' and offered me a £10 refund as compensation.
Having looked at other sellers I can only find one other that matches the price I paid, but unfortunately that did not include postage - another £12.
If I return it to Nitrotek and buy else where I can see myself paying an extra £24 in postage given that I could not get Nitrotek to confirm in an e-mail that they would refund the return costs.
So all thing considered I am going to take it on chin and keep the tank. I just hope after all this faffing around it has not got any faults with it.
I had a good look at it tonight and must admit it does look more robust than the Heng Long 'Bull Dog' I bought my nephew a few years ago. I am probably mistaken but the gear box appears to be metal - unless the cogs are just sprayed with metallic paint.
Forgot to pickup the AA batteries today so will 'fire' it up tomorrow and ping a few BB's around the kitchen.

so that is what they justify their product with.... Was the image there when you bought it or have they added it since you complained??
You are right that very unpainted tank was not there when I made the purchase.
Excuse the obvious pun, but I think they are trying cover their tracks!

Thanks for advice

Not a bad result... another battery would have been more favorable.. but all in all it sounds like they were at least a little flexible ...My understanding is TAIGENS are very good internally and externally....with gearboxes similar to HENG LONGS...so if your gears aren't white... but off silver gray... you got metal :D

I just replied to a post by TANKS FOR THE MEMORIES... has some awesome details on what you can do with a tiger

I purchased a Taigen Tiger with the intention to repaint it anyway, there weren't any unpainted options when I purchased mine else I would have gone down that route.
The painted ones are ok but imho they look too toy like the way they have done it, and trying to get the paint off to do a respray was a nightmare, I don't know whats in the stuff they use over there but it's bleedin though paint

Hello thunderbolt..

That's the first time I've heard of bleeding with factory paint... as usually they seal it so there is no residue that will come off on your hands ....though it doesn't mean it couldn't happen

It could be a situation where the plastic itself has residue from the casting itself...I don't see why stripping it would be a problem either... as there are and assortment of acrylic water sol strippers available

The other thing that could be causing the bleed is your preparation...I wouldn't be able to tell you as I don't know what you do....but light coats of a sealer should stop the bleed as if there is something from the Taigen factory that is causing it... the seep would be directed in the porous direction after hitting the sealer... just make sure one side of the hull is not sealed so it can breath..... as whatever might be causing the bleed might start affecting the plastic itself...making it brittle and subject to crumbling
