I bought the Tiger 1 - as reading between the lines, the model has been around for a while, and parts have been made in number by various suppliers. I can imagine quite a few purchases will be on their way from welshdragon, (so I will hide the c.card bill from the wife.....).
The Tiger can look really cool once a paint job and detailing has been applied, so I opted for the pro-version with the metal gearboxes, metal idler & tracks and the smoke & BB.
I have read lots of the hints in the beginner section - which was very useful and can see I have alot of evenings, weekends & months of work ahead of me. My aim is to enjoy the work, not get too over my head and gradually update my tank to the level I can be proud of. I will post pictures on the way, so maybe people can advise - or comment on likes / dislikes.

I am considering painting based on the SS-10th Panzer-Division 'Frundsberg' (Anyone know where I can get a decent set of colour images on their camouflage patterns / markings ?)

Cheers all,

squadie_brat_72 wrote:wow- egg on face at first post... oops!! I am now looking at selection between "Das Reich" & "Wiking" divisions, so not decided yet. I don't want anything too complicated as my skills with airbrush are a little out of practise, but then don't want something too dull I will regret. Will keep you posted.
P.S - am I posting this in correct area of forum?

Cheers,

By the way SB-72...Airbrushing is a good way to get "coverage" but brushing up on your brush skill will pay off... on my Tiger I couldn't find the appropriate numbers...so i had to do them by hand.... also helps when painting your figures

Hallo S-B72, Welcome to the Forum, I see we have yet another Tiger1, oh well maybe the Panzer4 will catch on one day, sorry you don't want to hear me complaining. You are trying to find a represenative unit for the Tiger, well Red Devil is definately someone whose advise I would recommend, In the periods when I am free from building the Tank I will start checking references, (about time everyone shouts)the reference section on this Forum is a very good source for Camo schemes and a lot of detail about not only Tigers but military units etc, Remember GOOGLE is your friend, tap in Tiger 1 and your printer will run out of paper before all the information is downloaded. enjoy this hobby and remember not to get too serious you are doing it for fun after all. shaun
I think I am about to upset someone :haha:

Re: Newbie introduction. update

Hello Again.... sorry for no update in response to your posts, but yesterday a close family member had a stroke so we are all shocked.

Had begun 1st task of strengthening gearboxes with brass washers on order, and will do the toothpaste trick to grind them in. Had lots of frustration trying to get get metal tracks off tank, but after lot of twisting and wriggling got them off the idler wheel. Have read all sections of details on errors to be corrected on Tiger, although not too keep on job of repositioning of the turret. Maybe a project for a later date.

Just want to thank all advise given so far, clearly some very knowledgeable & friendly people here on this forum.
I have been searching the google images (good suggestion), but either pictures in black & white or same Tigers done by people following the same theme. I bought a model magazine today with guide on painting tiger (despite being 1:35th scale).

Cheers for now

Good Morning,
Remember to check out both the Tips and Tricks section and Heng Long section. Unscrewing the sprocket on both sides will help you get those tracks off (and back on) in a jiffy.
