King Tiger build
Found some pic's of my King Tiger build, all out of the box, no after market stuff. Used fly screen
for vent covers, folded brass lengths for track hangers, changed the pigsnout from the kit one to
the production which was a bit tricky. Also made the fenders so they are removeable.
Used half round evergreen then a 4.5 volt soldering iron to create weld lines. Used production pigsnout
Used blue tack to create the hard line scheme.
Using brass rod and tubes to make fenders removable.
Paint going on, made drivers hatch openable.
Used numbers from Tiger I decal set, hand painted white surrond, don't know if this is correct, just liked the colour.
Followed Tamiya paint guide right down to the spots.
Took me around 15 months on and off, have to say one of my favorite tanks.

Re: King Tiger build
Thanks for the kind comments, the yellow is Humbrol 73 thinned for airbrushing,
which is probably a bit light. No mods other than scratch built stuff as listed above
Pic of interior.

Re: King Tiger build
Excellent KT you have there Panzerman! Do you have any info on modding the pig snout mantlet as I want to use that one on my KT with the recoil. Any tips would be greatly appreciated.

Re: King Tiger build
Hi Rik,
Sorry have no pic's so will have a go at describing how I did it. As you probably know you get the production pigs snout with the kit. I don't know why Tamiya didn't use this snout in the first place as most of the pic's you see of KTs have the one I used?
What I did was got a piece of plastic pipe with around a 15mm inside diameter to mount the pig snout to the mantlet, from memory it was around 2.5cm long. Then did a a bit of dry fitting, filing to get both the length and the diameter correct. It was quite fiddly and frustrating from memory, have a break have another go. It is probably obvious but you don't want to get the barrel fowling on the inside of the bit of pipe.
The end result you will have a KT thats's just a little bit different to everybody elses!
Good luck and take your time,
Panzerman

Re: King Tiger build
Nice paint job on the kt looks very time consuming doing all the masking but it looks the part and is worth the effort.
