RC chassis for Trumpeter Sd.Kfz. 251 Ausf. D

Post by Panzerjaeger66 »

Trumpeter now released the 1/16 Sd.Kfz. 251 Ausf. D and many have the kit already at home. Some had hoped that the model could be converted (easy) to RC, but the longer the more disillusionment spread.
I also got the kit and wanted to see, if and how a conversion to RC would be possible.

First I measured and made a drawing of the lower hull

and this is what came out:

the lower hull have to be reworked below

it will fit and looking like that:

 I see a challenge with the promise of a fine model. Do you have in mind a specific MFU? Will you reinforce the lower hull in some way? Will some of the front steering have to be reinforced or remade?

Following with great interest :) It's on my "do do" list as kit is not expensive (I wonder how Das Werk kit will look in comparison).

Oh, I forgot to mention that all parts at this picture will be new and printed respectively (the hull is stiff designed, so no additional reinforcement will be necessary) :

Also the tracks are printed, but the metal tracks from Asiatam will fit with the suspension too.

The MFU will be this one (especially created for half tracks):

I have already run the suspension several times some time ago.
