M10 Duck bill

Post by Ecam »

Been away for a bit but I have been checking in. After photo bucket became a pay to play service and many threads became useless, I lost heart and backed off a bit. Then a move to a new state and much work needed on the new homestead.......
I finally am getting back to posting.

M10, M10A1 and M36. Golly I like TD's!

Gun, breach is grey because at the time I had no paints close to silver/bare steel.

My Hobby room. There are 5 German tanks just out of view on the upper right (mostly untouched). The 10 x 24 Logan lathe is behind me. Big belt sander and drill press out in the shop.

The M10A1 was my second tank and first scratch build. I intended on a duck bill back then but had finished the turret before I realized the turret rear wall was different than the one I built so it became a wedge. There were also "should have done" things that I came across. It was my first scratch build! A few tanks later I decided to try again.

Also I like to keep cost low. Other than the HL M4A3 (I bought a few when I could pick 'em up for $100 US), I spent about 12 bucks on this. Everything was stuff I had around.

Pershing is a tad outta place with the suspension! (Ignoring the Tiger on the right side of image...)
And a rifleman too! Looks like an older RCBS Rock Chucker plus the other stuff in the image...

More of a handgunner but have touched off a round or two from the long guns. I believe in single stage loading!

In an effort to keep things "in house" (cheap), I used two HL M4A3 grills to make the M10 engine deck.

I also scratched the exhaust manifold/muffler assembly.

And to minimize thread hijacking...
Ug… I'm an action shooter and after the first 2000 rounds of 40 S&W on my RCBS RC, I went progressive for handgun...

And now back to our regularly schedule Tank discussions!
A very nice collection of Sherman hulled tanks.

As long as we're hijacking Eric's thread, you might want to know that his parents were two (of the four) founders of Single Action Shooting Society (SASS) which invented Cowboy Action Shooting. And yes, since I was a grunt in the Marine Corps, that explains my own name on this board. I don't want to rain on his parade by confessing which of us is a better shooter, though. -Mike

I have a Mato M10 that needs complete overhauling (project #4234 for someday). I like gun elevation and flash, but given the open top and the detail you achieve, I would be happy, happy, happy with a rotating turret alone. However, I am not jealous, not one bit you lucky....
