HL tanker truck or my first try at 3d modelling

Post by yagen »

Hi everyone,

thought I might post some pictures of my very first try at 3d modelling and printing. I decided to model a tanker body for the 16th scale HL/WPL trucks and used the 4x4 GAZ 66 platform as base. The tank shown here is the firat prototype printout and does not show the real state of development. I have added a few improvements (new ladder, new walkway on top, two walkway supports instead of one per module etc.).
Hope you like it.

For those who want to know:

I used Tinkercad for 3d modelling.
Slicing was done using Cura.
The printer is a cheap Anycubic i3 mega mk 2 using PLA filament.

Great work, don't forget to add some stronger springs in the rear when you fill that tanker up :) (i am only joking)

Its funny but i am also building a GAZ 66 tanker, but just using the cheap tanker kit from ebay and be 3d printing extra details.

Get yourself into the HL Truck thread and join the rest of us ;)

Hi everyone,

thank you very much for your kind feedback. I have to admit that it took me approximately 3 weeks, lots of try and error and countless meters of filament to get this project working.
I had also thought about using the WPL tank as base. My goal, however, is to build a big tanker trailer for a semi-truck. I have found a nice fifth wheel and a good looking kamaz cabin on thingiverse and am thinking about using these - likely with some modifications - as tractor.
That is the reason for the tank being fully modular.
... don't forget to add some stronger springs in the rear ...
That is quite necessary. The tank itself is already heavy (close to 500g) and I want to hide the electronics, battery and so on inside, at least on the non trailer variant ;) . Therefore, stronger springs are almost a must. My second GAZ 66, the flatbed variant, is also quite heavy on the reat axle as I moved the battery into a custom made compartment right above the rear diff and changed the battery from the 5C 6V variant to a much stronger 2700mAh 6C 7.2V one. The space below the cabin is currently occupied by a smal tower pro servo for steering, a 14 channel rc receiver (yes, there are some plans for future electronic upgrades), the ESC and a small 4 connector multi switch controlling the lights.

My other trucks (one Ural, two additional GAZ 66 and two M35) are currently waiting for upgrades and modifications. Unfortunately, I can't work on my trucks as much as I'd like to due to my bad health and consequently tight finances :( . My Panzer IV is, for the same reason, unfinished and work in progress, too.

So long, cheers,

Reinhard
