Early Tiger 1 Air Filters?

l`ve just been flicking through a book on Tigers and its struck me that both Tamiya and Heng Long don`t seem to have accurate air filters.
http://www.armortek.co.uk/Forum3b/viewt ... w=previous
Which clear show 2 separate round canisters?, or did these get enclosed by a separate cover giving the appearance of the Tamiya & Heng Long Tiger filters ?
Confused

Hi thejunkman,
That is an incredible 'Spot' that you have made there, it really is...

...How many times have we all looked at our Tigers and at the Photos but
no-one has ever picked it up
Nice to see that the armortek ones are so cheap....
But Looking at the photos I have Armortek are
CORRECT and the Tamiya and Heng Long are
BOTH WRONG.....Heng Long you would expect to be wrong since they copied Tamiya...but Tamiya really ought to start improving their models and not just relying on the 'model car market'.........amazing all these years even looking at the slits in the exhaust covers ( Photo 4 )but I never saw the blindingly obvious...

..not even the after-market upgrade parts manufacturers....and you can
bet that there will be a profit in making those !

hi Dietrich,
think they`re for big scale tanks, hence the price
But l`ve been reading lots of topics on here and most guys are real sticklers for accuracy, l wondered how nobody has bothered getting the filters as they should be?
Things like getting hatches facing the right way, cupulars the right way round etc, surely accurate filters come under that bracket?

Well, l did`nt like to say anything really, being a newbie
But l have this book l`m reading and it clearly shows line drawings etc showing the top part split in two...looked through all the Tiger builds and could`nt see anyone who had changed theirs to suit.
Thought l must be missing something

Hi Guys they actually had both types, I have asked Dietrich to resize the 2 pics I have as I am unable, but they clearly show the second type in question.

Thats it, ruin my one moment of glory
No seriously though, seems the split down the middle type was the more common? Which seems strange Tamiya managed to choose the one piece, maybe it was easier to cast?

They also had 2 different style manlets, I was under the impression the air cleaners which you first spoke about which are on the Bovington Tiger which also has the other style manlet where North Africa issue but I am not a 100% certain...
I will post some pics later on today when I get home...
Cheers Ken

Hi Guys,
thejunkman
HAS discovered a new 'Species' of air-filter for the Tiger 1...so well done

......................
By some strange quirk of fate the first Tiger 1 photos in my file ALL had the same kind.....I even went to check my model in case I was wrong.......and I was....

....when I feel a bit better I will get a few more photos of what is probably the 'later' and easier to manufacture the kind that we all know and love.......Its still odd though all these years and we missed such a glaring difference in filters

Tamiya included the earlier air filters on their Afrika static kit...K sprue (also includes early mantlet)
The new limited edition Tamiya Tiger 1 kit includes the K sprue.
Axels-Modelbau used to sell the K sprue in the past.
Here are links to the new Tiger kit:
