On the left of each topic, on the index page is a circle, sometimes the lines are static other
times they move and sometimes there is a symbol over the circle.

Please excuse me for bring a computer knowledge gumby, just wondering what this means?

A white circle = Posts you have read or marked as read
A red circle = Post you have not yet read
Circle with moving lines = A popular thread

Another small symbol inside the bigger circle can mean a few things:

This means there is a sub-forum inside this category:

Some of the other symbols are chosen by user when when posting a new thread, such as: and

Some of them highlight the fact that the post has been moved or is currently locked, if you hover your mouse over these icons it should display a tooltip with a description of what it is.
